48 hours after shaking the Canadian Professional Football League to its foundation by toppling the undefeated Calgary Stampede, the (3-3) Nigerian Nightmares had some easy sledding against the (0-6) Kitchener Lions and defeated the last place Lions by a final score of 17-3. Despite the half-time celebration of Christian Okoye as well as the excitement that came with their home opener of the season, the Nightmares appeared to struggle to find a balance between their quickly developing running game and their stagnant passing game.
The Nightmares and the Lions traded field position throughout the first half, with neither finding the end zone. Before Half-Time the only score of the first half came from a chip shot Field Goal from 21 yards out by K Mario Boomer of the Nightmares. In the second half the Lions could only put up three points via a Field Goal. Meanwhile the running back duo of Lord Shme and Reginald Bush, who was making his debut in the game, both scored from 2 yards out in the third and fourth quarter respectively. The Lions put up a weak fight overall and the Nightmares pretty much snoozed their way through the game, a dangerous sign for the future.
If a lesson can be taken from this game, it is that this team must never take things for granted. That, and the fact remains that this is obviously a group of players that still have a long way to go to get to the top of the football world. This was really a coming out game for the running back duo of Lord Shme and Reginald Bush, those two have potential to be game breakers together. While QB Jeff Garcia didn’t have a bad game, he will need to do more if the game falls into his hands. The Wideouts need to get better collectively as a group, especially I Say, who dropped a sure fire TD in the endzone. Regardless, the Nigerian Nightmares still have all the talent in the world, they just need to learn to focus and harness that potential talent into a supreme ass-kicking machine.
