PEERLESS PURPLE PENGUIN PROGNOSTICATIONS (PPPP): WEEK FIFTEEN!!!

Another terrific week in the BBB#7, filled with upsets and high stakes games. The Prognosticator had one of his worst weeks of the season, but it’s hard to be too upset considering the great playoff races we have in store for us down the stretch!

Playoff Update:
Not much has changed for the top 3 seeds. Atlanta is virtually assured of the #1 seed unless someone thinks the 0-14 Big Whiskey Assassins can upset them in week 16 (doubtful). Niagara holds the upper hand for the #2 seed by virtue of not only their head-to-head (HTH) victory against Louisville, but the Baby Kittens horrific strength of schedule. Louisville must finish with undefeated Atlanta and the top 10 ranked LA Chupacabras and must win both if Niagara wins either one of its games. Atlanta-Niagara-Louisville is a near lock.

The rest of the field is where it gets interesting. Lincoln’s unexpected loss to Las Vegas puts their #4 seed in jeopardy. Lincoln faces 5-9 Saginaw, a respectable team with good talent, and then the 10-4 Austin Breakers from the West. Appalachian, meanwhile, takes on 6-8 Las Vegas and then 2-12 Fresno. The tiebreaker would go to Appalachian since the beat the Freedom Warriors this past week in a game that suddenly takes on even greater significance. If both teams are able to dispatch their foes this week, we can assume Appalachian will defeat Fresno, setting up a titanic tussle between Lincoln and Austin! The winner of this battle claims a nifty prize indeed---the 1.5-2 MILLION dollars that comes from hosting a home playoff game!

6, 7, and 8 look to belong to Red Bank, Texas, and Houston although Jax Beach still has an outside shot and Roswell and Las Vegas are not yet mathematically eliminated. Red Bank can end Jax Beach’s hopes with a win this week, but it won’t be easy. OTOH, they have taken care of business when needed all season long, and it’s definitely needed now! After than, it’s the 5-9 Visalia Paraplegics. It’s quite possible Red Bank goes 2-0 and ends up 11-5!!! Texas faces off against the toughest team in the conference, record notwithstanding, the Nigara Rapids, then the 6-8 Chicago Whodat’s. Houston is virtually guaranteed a 1-1 record as they take on the best of the best, Oakland, to close out the season, but get a gift in the worst of the worst (Richmond) this week. A 9-7 future looks very likely for the Armageddon.

How will it shake out? I’ll post the Peerless Purple Penguin’s Playoff Predictions in another Post, but for now, let’s just refocus on the business at hand:

Season Results: 51-12-1
Week Thirteen Results: 5-3
Saginaw at Richmond Prediction: SAG 77-0 Actual: SAG 99-0
Cleveland at Niagara Prediction:NIA 44-3 Actual: NIA 44-0
Louisville at River City Prediction: LOU 40-6 Actual: LOU 80-0
Jax Beach at South Bend Prediction: JAX BEACH 24-10 Actual: JAX BEACH 26-20
Roswell at Atlanta Prediction: ATL 27-10 Actual: ATL 31-17
Texas at Las Vegas Prediction: TEX 24-9 Actual: LV 26-16
Appalachian at Lincoln Prediction: LIN 24-23 Actual: APP 32-17
Houston at Red Bank Prediction: HOU 20-16 Actual: RBK 27-10

(8) Richmond Empire (0-14) at Houston Armageddon (8-6)-----One more team gets its default win for the season and it couldn’t come at a better time for the Armageddon. After last week’s disheartening loss to Red Bank, and with an encounter with undefeated Oakland looming next week, this is a must win. It’s also a gimme .……..HOUSTON-122 RICHMOND-0

(7) River City Ransom (1-13) at Cleveland Buckeyes (2-14)-----At least this week’s #7 game is a more evenly matched affair than usual. This actually should be a very good game, with both teams fighting for pride and the right to avoid last place for teams that not suffering from rigor mortis (i.e., Richmond). Look for the Buckeyes to capitalize on the River City’s weakness on defense to manage their third victory of the season….…..CLEVELAND-23 RIVER CITY-14

(6) Las Vegas Outlaws (6-8) at Appalachian Lycans (9-5)-----Las Vegas pulled off a shocker against Texas in a game that showed a renewed sense of pride in the desert. They will be hard pressed to repeat that achievement this week, however, as they face an Appalachian team on a 3 game winning streak and in the catbird seat for the #5 seed in the playoffs and in the running for the #4 seed thanks to their head to head win against the Lincoln Freedom Warriors. Appalachian has a lot at stake here---literally over a million (GLB) dollars, but so did the Domination that were beaten by the Outlaws last week. Even so, the smart money is on the Lycans to keep on rolling towards the playoffs……..APPALACHIAN-28 LAS VEGAS-13

(5) South Bend ShamRockers (3-11) at Roswell Invaders (6-8)-----Roswell showed some gumption against the Purple Penguins last week, striking hard and fast for 2 quick TDs, but were unable to hold on and eventually lost 31-17. This week’s opponent is not as strong, but South Bend has been playing tough as well. Still, Roswell showed me something this past week---I’ve got to go with them……..ROSWELL-16 SOUTH BEND-10

(4) Red Bank Thundercats (9-5) at Jax Beach Juggernauts (6-7-1)-----Red Bank should be ecstatic after their big win against Houston. Continued success should lead to a better playoff berth. Jax Beach has talent, but hasn’t been able to overcome its rough start. I think the momentum is swinging in favor ot Red Bank as the playoffs loom large on the horizon….…..RED BANK-27 JAX BEACH-23

(3) Lincoln Freedom Warriors (10-4) at Saginaw Spirit (5-9)-----Lincoln comes off another demoralizing loss in last week’s game with Appalachian. They’ll need to snap to in a hurry when they travel to Michigan to meet the Spirit. Saginaw still is a highly talented team that cannot be taken for granted---ask Texas how being upset feels---so much will depend on whether the Freedom Warriors enter the game discouraged or revitalized. Knowing their coaching staff, I’d bet on the latter.……..LINCOLN-24 SAGINAW-3

(2) Niagara Rapids (12-2) at The State of Texas Domination (8-5-1)-----Texas missed a golden opportunity to help themselves last week, because this week they’re up against the toughest team they’ll see all year. Nigara is a tough draw when you’re fighting for playoff seeding, but perhaps the Domination can learn something from this game as it is quite possible that there will be a round 2 in the playoffs!.……..NIAGARA-34 TEXAS-13

(1) GAME OF THE WEEK: Atlanta Purple Penguins (14-0) at Louisville Baby Kittens (12-2)----- Although this game is barely more than a formality for Atlanta (they would have to lose to a winless team to lose the top playoff seed) these two powerhouses become the game of the week by default. If Louisville hopes to have a chance at hosting a second round playoff game, it must win here to displace Niagara from the #2 spot. There’s more at stake for the Kittens than Atlanta, but an undefeated season can be a strong incentive in its own right. I’ll go with my brethren on this one as I think both offenses are stellar, but Louisville’s defense might be suspect. .……..ATLANTA-30 LOUISVILLE-20

This is an exciting part of the season and I hope you’re all enjoying it! I certainly am! Happy Football!!!!

w00t we are expected to win a game... that's awesome... though i think we are slightly overmatched as they put a good number of their starters in other positions or back-up roles to try and trick us.

Our DC lost internet at his house for 2 days, and our OC was on vacation. We didn't have a game plan at all in place, so the Freedom Warriors are back.

OK, considering what a hot playoff race we have in the East for seeds 4-8, I thought I'd post projections using a few different methods.

Brick:
1) Atlanta Purple Penguins---46.42
2) Niagara Rapids---39.41
3) Louisville Baby Kittens---37.70
4) Lincoln Freedom Warriors---29.87
5) Appalachian Lycans--25.33
6) Red Bank Thundercats---24.39
7) Houston Armageddon---23.05
8) The State of Texas Domination---19.86
9) Las Vegas Outlaws---11.56

League Projector: (spreadsheet downloaded from the Forums)
1) Atlanta 16-0
2) Niagara 14-2
3) Louisville 13-3
4) Lincoln 12-4
5) Red Bank 11-5
6) Houston 10-6 (won HTH vs Appalachian)
7) Appalachian 10-6
8) Texas 9-6-1
9) Roswell 8-8

Purple Predictor: (my own formula w/ W-L, SOS, Pythagorean calculation)
1) Atlanta---41.68
2) Niagara---38.43
3) Louisville---37.65
4) Lincoln---32.70
5) Appalachian---31.49
6) Red Bank---30.87
7) Texas---27.82
8) Houston---27.26
9) Jax Beach---23.13

Looks like the loss to Las Vegas cost the Domination quite a bit in all these rankings, but of course, they don't mean a thing once the games get played!

Dear GLB, might be time to consider changing the ownership of this team...

Wow, I didn't realize that they don't have a single active player...

I wonder how many of those players have unspent skill points?
