I have been building a relatively blocking orriented FB. Recently, my owner has asked my to train on catching, because he wants to use me as an option in the passing game. How effective is catching for FBs? In my career I only had 1 reception that actually went for a gain. They rest I was immediately tackled behind the marker. I have decent speed for my level, because I don't want to get outrun by the HB through the hole. Does catching actually effect how well you can move after you catch it, or like catch awareness, catching it in front of the line of scrimmage?

Any advice would be apreciatted.

Catching just affects how well you catch the ball and possess it. That's it.

An owner asking you to train up catching is quite normal, you should let it train for a season or so to get it to ~27 and you'll be good to go.

to have your catching at 20-25 is just so you can get the ball in space... because it is a sim, your QB will throw you the ball if you are open... whether you can catch or not... so might as well have the ability just so your not hurting the team

FB's catch usually catch short passes in the open so IMO you don't need very much catching to be effective. At most, train in catching. Do not use skill points.

I've never trained or added skill points and my FB has never dropped a pass although I do have a few points in sticky hands.

Catching only effects your ability to catch the ball. Vision and confidence also help. Jumping can help if the ball is over your head.

After you catch it, carrying, speed, agility and strength effect how well you move and your ability to break tackles.

Not disagreeing; 27 catching isn't very much at all and is achievable without spending skill points.

Sure, but you know you get a bonus to catching when you're wide open and a penalty applied based on how covered you are, right?

So if you're juggling a pass when there's no one within 5 yards of you, I hope you're able to make that clutch reception in traffic too.

Please train your catching to 26-27. Every FB should do so, imo.

Very seldom does my boy get a pass thrown his way...
This Team Runs the ball & throws long when they do.
This was a game against some scrub team that should be in a lower league
& that's the only reason a pass was thrown this way.
We won 92~0 and it was ridiculous.
I train it on occasion but I ain't real worried about it.
1 drop in 19 chances over 30 games as a starter doesn't worry me much.

I am slowly working on getting his speed up both for offense and lead blocking.
