PEERLESS PURPLE PENGUIN PROGNOSTICATIONS (PPPP): WEEK THIRTEEN!!!
Welcome to the Peerless Purple Penguin Prognostication for this week! We are back on track, on schedule, and on the mark as we can now call the Prescient Penguin “PERFECT” as he went 8-0 last week on his Post-vacation Predictions!!!
Season Results: 45-10-1
Week Twelve Results: 8-0 WOO-HOOOOO!!!!
Texas at Richmond Prediction: TEX 83-0 Actual: TEX 87-0
Cleveland at Lincoln Prediction: LIN 44-6 Actual: LIN 27-3
Roswell at Niagara Prediction: NIA 42-16 Actual: NIA 45-6
Louisville at Las Vegas Prediction: LOU 40-3 Actual: LOU 35-3
Jax Beach at River City Prediction: JAX 34-7 Actual: JAX 41-10
Appalachian at Saginaw Prediction: APP 28-13 Actual: APP 25-14
Red Bank at Atlanta Prediction: ATL 33-20 Actual: ATL 23-16
Houston at South Bend Prediction: HOU 42-17 Actual: HOU 30-3
But enough about LAST week—this week features some stupendous matchups as the race for the playoffs continues. So, without further ado, the next round of Pulse-Pounding Predictions:
(8) Richmond Empire (0-12) at Appalachian Lycans (7-5)-----Ho-hum, what’s new? The Empire got demolished yet again. Gotta admire their consistency. Appalachian gets a chance to scout the local junior high school talent as they wait for a REAL game next week against Lincoln……..APPALACHIAN-79 RICHMOND-0
(7) Las Vegas Outlaws (4-8) at Cleveland Buckeyes (2-10)-----Two teams that are pretty much just playing out the season. After a promising start, Las Vegas has faltered badly, losing its last six in a row. While not mathematically eliminated, it would take an act of Congress AND Nancy Pelosi getting caught doing the nasty with W. for Las Vegas to make the playoffs (Ugh! Not exactly a pleasant visual image…..moving on now!). Cleveland never was in the playoff picture. Early on, Rikki Danner and the running game was the key for the Outlaws, but they’ve abandoned that approach as Danner;’s previously huge lead for the rushing title has evaporated. Instead, jasonstarks has been the go-to guy on offense, but his 10 TDs against 16 INTs pretty much tells the story about where the how the Outlaws season has gone. This week, SOMEONE has to go home happy. My guess is that it’s the Outlaws as the Buckeyes just don’t have the talent to match up on the field. One final celebration for the Vegas bunch before taking on Texas, Appalachian, and the #2 team in the West, the Austin Alcoholics.……..LAS VEGAS-24 CLEVELAND-6
(6) The River City Ransom (1-11) at Roswell Invaders (5-7)-----Another matchup with two teams with slim to none in the way of playoff hopes. Roswell has a chance at a 0.500 season, but I don’t think 8-8 is going to make the playoffs this year. Still, there’s always a chance and, if nothing else, the Invaders new owner will want to see who he wants to keep on the roster for next year’s retooling. The Ransom can at least put some decent players on the field, but not enough to stay with Roswell.……..ROSWELL-24 RIVER CITY-16
(5) Saginaw Spirit (4-8) at Houston Armageddon (7-5)-----Houston rebounded nicely from their disappointing loss to Atlanta by drubbing South Bend, and their talent is beginning to gel very nicely. This is a dangerous team! Of the playoff contenders, the Armageddon have had the roughest schedule so far, which means that the home stretch should be correspondingly easier. The Spirit now find themselves with a Level 12 starting HB, and there’s no way a one dimensional team is going to be able to handle Houston……..HOUSTON-30 SAGINAW-6
(4) South Bend ShamRockers (3-9) at Red Bank Thundercats (7-5)-----Red Bank almost pulled off the upset last week against Atlanta. Do they have anything left against South Bend? I’m not exactly sure where the malfunction is in South Bend, but considering the talent on the roster, it’s surprising to see them at 3-9. Then again, considering the local college team, underperformance of blue chip talent may simply be par for the course in South Bend. (oooooo….that hoits!!!) In any event, Red Bank has fought too hard to get to the position it’s in for the playoff chase to take the ShamRockers lightly. Red Bank has consistently found a way to win, while South Bend has demonstrated a propensity for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I gotta go with the trend…….RED BANK-28 SOUTH BEND-20
(3) Atlanta Purple Penguins (12-0) at Jax Beach Juggernauts (5-6-1)-----On paper, a mismatch—an undefeated team against a below 0.500 squad. But wait! Jax Beach is 4-2 in its last 6 games and has turned its season around. Dick Pepper is #3 in the League (not just the Conference) in passing yards. Tyrone Shoes is #5 in the League in receiving yds and Stefano C. Sharp is less than 15 yds away from 1000 for the season and the best rusher in the conference. On the other hand, the Juggernauts are vulnerable on defense. Jack DaRippa can hold his own in the secondary, but the rest of the Jax Beach secondary is weak. Look for Atlanta to exploit that weakness while trying to slow down the Juggernauts Terrible Trio. This could turn into a shootout!.……..ATLANTA-38 JAX BEACH-24
(2) Lincoln Freedom Warriors (10-2) at The State of Texas Domination (7-4-1)-----OK, the appetizers are done and we’re finally to the meat of this week’s schedule. Texas’s resurgence from a slow start was a surprise to some, but not to the Purple Predictor. The Domination were a solid team last year and only improved in the off season. It’s not a fluke that they’re right in the thick of the playoff hunt. Lincoln has been dominant at times, and disappointing at others. It’s never clear which Freedom Warriors team will show up. Lately, though, it’s been the overpowering Lincoln team that Pounded Louisville and dismantled Cleveland. It’s going to be a close one, but I’ve sold the Lincolnites short before and lived to regret it, so the call is…………LINCOLN-18 TEXAS-16
(1) GAME OF THE WEEK: Niagara Rapids (10-2) at Louisville Baby Kittens (11-1) -----WOW! What a game this is gonna be!!! These are arguably the two best coached teams in the league, squaring off in a contest that may have HUGE implications for playoff seeding. If Louisville wins, Niagara figures to be the #4 seed, but if Niagara wins the playoff seedings are wide open! Kamikaze Kitten has led the League in passing yds and TDs nearly wire-to-wire thus far this season, but Joe Goodberry has consistently been the guy right behind him! The top 2 WRs for TDs are both from Louisiville, but #3 is from, you guessed it, Niagara. The two teams are tied for the conference lead in pts per game at 36.4 while Niagara has a slight edge in pts allowed, 11.3 to 12.1. Forget Atlanta-Jax Beach—THIS should be the barn burner of the week, and probably the season!!! It’s another one that’s tough to call, but based on the strength of schedule, I’m going to have to go with……..NIAGARA-30 LOUISVILLE-27
Honestly, I don’t know whether I’m more interested in the Niagara-Louisville game or my own team’s game! I’ll be looking forward to Sunday’s meeting to see how it turns out! Hope everyone had a happy Fourth!
