Trying out something for our team and I cannot get my BTE to stay in and pass block.

BTE on the left, TE assignment (Pass block left side), BTE is not targeted at all in progressions and he NEVER stayed in to block.

What am I doing wrong?

Can you link a play, specifically?

TE assignment would refer to the TE on the right side of the formation

If you want the BTE (left) to stay in you need to use the BTE assignment

If you want the right TE to pass block on the left side with the BTE, I don't believe that is possible

Just to throw one more scenario in here, I wondered once whether you could assign the TE to block on the left side on a screen pass to that side, because, hey, a screen pass is still a pass play, right? Well, you can't.

To be fair to everyone who has gotten confused over this issue over the years, I have to say that it's just wrong for GLB to have labeled the second TE as the "BTE", because it's just a second TE, it can be blocking or receiving or whatever. It should have been changed to TE1 and TE2, the same way WRs are done. They just didn't think it all the way through because offensive sets with 2 TEs in them were added 20 or so seasons in (if anyone remembers exactly when they were added, please correct me).

There were a lot of things they seemingly didn't think through when they added them but what can one do but work with it best as one can. Me personally, I use "BTE" to refer to the position, and "bTE" to refer to the blocking TE archetype or a similarly built TE, as opposed to the receiving TE or "rTE". Obviously that in itself is confusing but I think so long as everyone is clear on that, it works as a means to differentiate them.
