What do you do when you aren't getting the roll you want? Do you keep rolling until you get it and make up BT's with light training later? Do you take whatever the best one you get is? Or do you stop rolling for the day, come back another time and hope your luck changes? I've never known if I was doing the right thing or not.

you may create the item you want. Is cost more if you want an % AEQ (a total of 125BT for a +3 with +5% attached) but you can have what you want that way.

Hell I spend that much sometimes trying to get the perfect roll. Thanks for that!

Edit - I think Theo has a well written blog on this topic, with all kinds of mathz.
This is me lol
I'll have to check out that blog. I'll need to figure out when I need to start catching up on BT's for 4 pieces.

shopping all depends on the roll and I believe the kind of dot you are building
I usually start shopping at level 31 but what I do is only roll max of 3 times at one time if I don't get a decent roll then I wait a bit. Also will only roll so many times maybe 2 sets once I hit level 31, if my dot gets say into mid to high 30's i will just wait until it hits level 41 then you get that extra pc in the store.
As far as dots for example building a blocking fb you might get stuff like a +5 break tackle or something to that nature instead of a hb%
so you have to keep that in mind.
Getting that perfect pc shopping more than not could cost you more than building it but say you land a +3 strength with little shopping ot a +5 hb% you save bt's taking those and then adding to that piece
Honestly I usually make out pretty shopping for my first two pcs maybe even 3 pcs just depends on what you want.
I have even had dots that I was able to shop for 4 pcs before but then you have to be a bit selective and a little lucky as those were the dots where I might roll a +1or2 attr and a +5% pc along with it as the 3rd or 4th pc but it saves bt's and you can multi-train longer making up for the lower attr or %pc you bought. (hope I am explaining this correctly)
Good example is I am building a blocking fb and want 140 speed in it. I did some shopping but the only decent pcs I got were a +3 strength and a +3 blocking, both good pcs but buying them I will loose some aeq in the speed I would normally go for.
To make up for it I would just put less sk pts in strength and blocking during building the dot using the sk pts to beef up speed but you have to kind of hit those shopping trips kind of early before you already have strength and blocking built up. Usually I would put workout warrior va on the dot also but since I have the +3 strength aeq I will skip the workout warrior va and add the track star va.

I've shared thoughts on rolling pieces in other posts before, but to summarize my personal thoughts right now:
I'll roll for the first piece for just about any dot, but especially if I'm looking for two or three 5% pieces for that dot...the huge amount of potential savings in getting a 5% piece almost guarantees it being worthwhile. You have to keep in mind that even if you roll the perfect piece for a second, third, or fourth piece, you might have to drop an extra 18 BTs or whatever to change it from hands to feet, etc. (just to keep in mind the true cost of the final piece)
For a real world example, I have two guards that I rolled a first piece for each of them recently. On both, I ended up getting the 5% piece I was looking for. However, on one dot, I only saved 2 BT over what it would have cost to build. On the other dot, I saved 40 BT. So, obviously, your results are ALWAYS going to vary. In this case, one guard now will have 3 more 4-way multitrains in its lifetime, all other things equal. That's not insubstantial, and I think that's the draw of trying to roll pieces - to get even that little edge that might make the difference.

Roll 3 or 4 times for what you are looking for. At that point either buy what you want, or give it a few days and try your luck again.
