Warrior General Games

Heading to England for a wedding in June 2022. Planning to spend 3 weeks touring England, Scotland, & Ireland afterwards. First time traveling in that region. Will have my wife and 2 kids (15 & 10) in tow, so only so much time I can spend at the pubs, but also only so many old castles I can look at before they all start looking the same. How much time would you lads from the old side of the pond (and those from this side that have traveled there) recommend spending in each country?

I know, wrong forum, but this place is dead, and at least this isn't spam.

I’ve been to Scotland close to a dozen times and England about 4x.

England has to be the most overrated piece of garbage (besides Paris).

Spend all your time in Scotland and Ireland. Go to London for a day, then never go back.

No matter what castles you go to in Scotland, you won’t be disappointed. You can go and just get little headsets and do your own walking tours in most castles which is great. Scotland as I’m sure you know, can be kinda gloomy and dark. But it truly is beautiful. I definitely recommend doing a whiskey/scotch tour. They’re very passionate about it there.

I’ve never been to Ireland but I can only assume it’s much better than anywhere in England.


Also, idk how it is traveling as an American since most other countries despise America. But when I tell them I’m Canadian, their tones usually change completely and it’s always a good time. That goes for anywhere in the world.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. Soooo...when did you're English girlfriend dump you? I'd really like to spend about a week in each country, but I keep getting feedback that I should shorten my time in Scotland and extend in England and/or Ireland. But this is primarily from my English and Irish friends, so...lol.

We're thinking of ~3-4 days in London, then up to Cheshire (north of London) for the wedding (bride's hometown), and then continue north to Scotland from there.

I've loved the self-guided audio tours in many locations I've been in recent years, so that's a great idea. I'm not a fan of large group/bus tours if I can avoid them.

All I know is that "poof" is a term of endearment, like "friend"

Like if you get directions from someone, you're supposed to say "thanks poof"

So if I run out of smokes, I should politely ask "Hey poof, can I bum a fag?"

Every British person I've ever known (except for one, oddly enough) said "Cheers!" a lot. Does that help?

So then, "Cheers for the fag, poof!" as I throw up the "peace" sign and walk away? Got it. Gonna be a great trip!

Is Ted Lasso big in England/The United Kingdom/UK/Great Britain/Britain/British Isles/Commonwealth/wtf/etc? Good show, pokes good-humored fun at stereotypes on both sides of the pond.

When in Cheshire, why not visit castle where Russell Wilson & Ciara got married , Peckforton castle and then nearby Beeston castle in Cheshire.Then head to Chester ,Chester is great - complete roman walls around city , and 1/2 a roman amphitheatre .Then onto North Wales.Welsh castles are fantastic - ie Conway and Caernarfon

Technically Cheshire is North of London , but Just say its near Liverpool.

Thanks for the feedback. Bride is actually from Chester, and the wedding is at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, which is also where we're staying for a few nights for the wedding. Didn't know that's where Russell Wilson & Ciara got married. Sounds like I better wear something nice.

Keep to the West of Scotland for beauty and the small islands for whiskey. Proper bloody whiskey from small distilleries. If in Glasgow drink Irn Bru fry ya mars bar and stick the nut on anything in sight !!!
Ireland is cool Wales too in the hillier areas
England has its Lake Disrict which is the home of real liqorice and Pontefract Cakes !!! Also the rugged west coast and South Downs are pretty cool
Beers good anywhere but London Pride always tastes best during a late lock in !!
