As overpowered as AOI seems to be (especially when stacked with Pummel) I wonder if in hindsight it may have been a bad idea to make it work for both? The fact that it is pretty much a requirement of any O-line build speaks volumes of its value and being overpowered.

That, and how many offensive linemen do you think are going to take Aura? If they do, they miss out on the ability to pick up Pummel, or any other SA they feel they might need. If they pick up Pummel, do you think they're going to actively shop for a piece of Aura of Intimidation AEQ and skip over the hold block %, the Pancake, the Protector, etc.?
A) Thick Skin does nothing against Aoi B) Every o-lineman takes both without any kind of AEQ compromise.
Since we're piling on, they also overlooked Intimidating VA
Intimidating This player would scare anyone. Each level of Intimidating increases the required confidence to resist the Trash Talk, Growl, Snarl, Aura of Intimidation, and Glare special abilities by 5%.
So whatever the magic number is to resist Aoi, now multiply it by 1.75
So even if it was as low as 50 (which it probably wasn't) it's now 85+ which basically means everyone except some Kickers and Punters.

i did that on my 2 centers. no one wanted them at 1st, but teams eventually signed them and it didnt take too long before both became starters and taking the majority of snaps. i cant remember if 1 or both made it to wl. you could really see the difference in both conf and energy for the entire o-line.
As a defense guy, I don't find AoI to be overpowered when used by opposing offensive lines. It's fine, very possibly worth the investment, but not overpowered.
The reason is that morale regenerates so fast when you're not on the field (all other things equal, like no huge scores/turnovers/etc.) So if an offense has Pummel and AoI but I get them off the field after like 5-8 plays, it will never "spiral"...I'll never hit that point where the low morale is significantly contributing to the defense's lack of performance. where you really get hit is when the offense is on the field for a really long drive, probably two, and it really wears you down. But if I can't get an offense off the field, then we're probably going to lose the game anyway...the AoI just makes the margin a little worse.
Additionally, increased confidence absolutely reduces the effect of AoI and Pummel (Pummel, btw, is much stronger and more worthwhile). Having a D-Line with 50-60 confidence takes a lot of the punch out of the morale-reducing strategy...and confidence also adds some to tackling, so having 60 confidence on the D-line can be a really efficient way to combat both morale-reducers while still increasign general functionality (tackling).
Oh, and Defense General and D-Lien general really help to mitigate it.
In the end, it's a fine strategy, and it will absolutely wreck D-Lines that don't have decent confidence or DG/DLG. But in an otherwise competitive game, I wouldn't say it makes a bigger difference than it should.
Originally posted by Theo Wizzago I'd have to go look but I'll take a guess here... with Centers it effects the O-line only, right? With QB it's all offense?
Anyone have an opinion on this? My G has a +3 strength piece for his 4th piece of equipment, and I have 18 BT for the ability cost. Should I buy First Step SA or get a 3rd HB% piece? It seems like HB% is the obvious choice, but then he won't have First Step SA at all and that seems like something he should have, but on the other hand the extra 3% to hold block% might be more important.
