Because WG never did get the stats right. Many laments have been posted over many, many, many seasons (meaning years) and nothing was ever changed. Sorry Slocus.

1st time that i saw it happen in a real league, a few of us contacted suppot. i was under the impression that that bort had finally admitted that there was an issue at st mvp and was looking into it. but it continued to happen, so obviously nothing was actually looked it. its when i stopped making stops and returners. they should have combined the kicker mvp into the st mvp. but even that would suck because my kicker has thrice lost mvp to a punter, so the punters on crappy teams would probably just sweep the st mvp every season anyways.

Where they went wrong;
#1, dots on non human owned teams should not be eligible for MVP gear unless all teams in that league are CPU owned. (Prevents stat spamming).
#2, Stats (for MVP consideration) should've been separated by WHEN the stat occurred (Offense, Defense, or Special Teams). The reason the OT in the OP's post is winning is because you only have to play on ST's at least one time to have ALL your stats count towards the MVP consideration. So that OT probably did play on ST's... likely a 3rd string or simply for one game... and now ALL it's stats count towards it's ST work even if if doesn't show that. I know this because I've had it happen to MY ST's. All those cakes and revcakes and tackles and everything... WG doesn't differentiate those from ST only stats.

Seems easy enough to set up. Look at this only for this, and look at that only for that. What could go wrong...

the biggest problem was that bort included team contribution and player level and position into the equation.

i dont think that #2 is true. just looking at the wl example right now, the OT in 1st place does not have the most pancakes of those players playing at least some ST. and pancakes havent been counted on ST since the early years. and why is only 1 conf having issues with the ST mvp?

ST mvp has always been fubar. i remember the argument that i had with catch about a FB returner that was #1 in kr and pr avg, total pr yards, and both kr and pr TDs, yet came in SIXTH in the mvp. the reason being that FBs arent supposed to be playing returner.

it really interesting now with some of the lesser populated leagues, because you'll see players on mvp where they've never played a single down, for instance, stops on the kicker list. or you'll see kickers from the kicker mvp also on the offensive mvp list, but in a different order from the kicker list.

The MVP awards shouldn't be available to any dot whose team didn't make the playoffs. That in and of itself would go a long way towards stopping stat padding.
