Custom means you can label it yourself

Like you could use it if there is a specific player from a certain team you want to have a tag for.

A more full way to explain it:

All tags mean nothing, they are just a means for which to dictate what play you called based off of formation.

Thus if you design your AI accordingly the 'tag' you choose doesn't matter... if you so choose to call your "run stuffing" defense when the TE tagged "Rusher QB" is on the field, and you tag their blocking TE as "Rusher QB" it would have the same effect as any other tag used the same way.

Bullshit!
Tagging is very important. Otherwise, you will just be playing a somewhat casual defense, when you just base your responses off of formation.

It is VERY useful, and only meant to be used in the rarest of circumstances.
It will not work with the pre-set "Tagged" DAI from GLB. You must identify the situation, and set your DAI accordingly.
Again, this is for the "WTF?" situations, and therefore is used, next to never.

Theoretical example for you here, Muad'Dib:

Your scouting an opponent has a pHB, that is used on all Blast & Dive plays.
They also have an sHB that rushes & receives. Let's say that this player is tagged as a Combo.
Now, your seeing that this pHB is a very successful receiver, on specific play(s), where it is apparent that the Checkdown Order has been modified to exploit the pHB.

Or, a pTE is put in as FB: This player may be used to Block, Receive, & Rush.

You can assign the Custom tag to this player specifically, and adjust / create a response in your DAI, that you can now isolate the development of the play through your Defensive play selection for this player assignment in the formation that you are defending against.

I see a lot of zone defenses in the above example, where the CB used on the flat is nothing but a pothole.

Like I said, the rarest of rare cases. This is meant for YOU to modify the already-existing GLB DAI decision making.

Tagging any TE as a Rusher is a bad idea. When said TE is actually playing the TE position of any kind, there will be an Unmatched Input. This will cause your AI to go to the Basic Defense Settings that you have in place.

I'm going to stick my hieney out for a second:
I normally run a HB, or pWR in my rQB slot.
In very specific situations, I will use that rQB slot, in screens & quick passes. The result?
100% comp rate for all, with the lowest yds/att being 8.5....

I hate to say that Stoned Beaver is right. The tag is just a way to trigger plays in a Custom DAI, what you tag it as `is irrelevant cause it's the plays attached to the tag that matters. For example: You can tag blocking TEs as "Elusive" and as long as in your DAI you have all TEs that are tagged "Elusive" it pulls up plays and personnel to counter what blocking TEs can do then you are fine.

So Custum Tags are just an extra way to tag for a DAI and can be used for whatever you want

Thanx!

I will never be a DC so it does not really matter to me BUT I thought I should at least inquire after 8 years!!

You just said what I said. I did explain it in depth though.

You should check your games.
I custom tagged several of your players in our game 5 days ago.
Held your #1 rusher to a 0.3 YPC, and I got a safety out of you.

Not bad, for custom tagging; in the specialized situations, that I mentioned in my 1st post.

I can see why you believe that tagging does nothing.

Anyone can win in rookie & Pee Wee Leagues.

Stick with what you know....

I normally don't add to these threads but...

He didn't say tagging does nothing... he said tags mean nothing. The name of the tag has no inherent meaning. They could just as easily be named blue, apple, square, cat or whatever

as long as you build the AI so that your "blue" defense is attached to the "blue" tag, you'll get the result you programmed
