I have seen no on this - don't ask me where - was years ago

I will say yes and here are my reasons why:

I invested quite a bit into closing speed. If I had the time, I am sure that I could find plays where she ran down returners after spotting them a 10-20 yard lead.

pretty sure it works but only when the returner has the ball and not when the ball is in the air....

this is what i used to think too. but it does seem to kick in right away on the stops that i've seen use it. but i would probably still go with equal parts 1st step and closing speed just to be safe.

I know this. If you're trying to use it (Closing Speed) to make up for a dot's lack of speed, then if the original speed gap between the returner and the dot with the Closing Speed is too much, it won't matter. Don't ask what the number (difference) is because WG ain't gonna divulge it. My guess is around 20 difference. If you're over that, then I think you're taking your chances. But if it's only 20 or less then it's pretty decent.

If chasing from behind, yes. Coming at them from the front as a gunner or on kick coverage will still give a boost to speed.

Does the speed script still work to confirm this? By the eyeball test, I have seen speed increases in attacking from the front.

If you are investing points into closing speed on a STOP, you are doing it wrong. When building a STOP gunner, forcing fumbles is always my goal. Big Hit, Monster Hit, and Head Hunter all need to be 10+ IMO. If you still have points to put elsewhere, they should go into skills that help you force more fumbles. Getting to the returner faster is of limited value, you hold your opponents to a 2 yard lower return average. Whoop-dee-doo! Get there 2 yards later, but bring a Big Hit or Monster Hit every time.

I disagree. Higher vision reduces how easily a gunner can be faked. The result is better positioning for tackle attempts, fewer missed tackles, and more forced fumbles. High 60s to low 70s is normally what I go for.

at the higher levels, good returners dont fumble very often, so i long ago gave up on that strategy. how many fumbles are you creating in competitive games?

i go for forcing fair catches which can flip a field when the punter and gunners are in sync. vision isnt going to help a gunner get within 5 yards of the PR. speed and closing speed will. on KO, i know where i can get players to easily beat their blockers, so getting 4 or 5 guys on the back wedge means that i dont have to worry about missing a single tackle as there are others nearby to make it.

On punts, I want to give the returner the chance to cough up the ball, so I would prefer to not have a fair catch. I like to have my punter move their slider to distance, and let the gunners do their thing.

Setting up your STs for KOs to have more than 3 people make it to the back wedge is fairly common. The good ST coaches do it. The bad ones don't.
