when passing... is it better to have the checkdown order as play default or make your own?

If you make your own, they'll checkdown your way and that's much better than letting them freestyle.
Sometimes you might want them to go from the short route route to the deep. If you let the QB do it themselves by going default, they could damn well go from short to shorter.
It's what I gathered at least.
