Subject: Briggs Finley (http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=613957)

Alright folks, it was brought to my attention during the MLB discussion that a middle linebacker with high levels of strength and agility may, or may not, be a very impressive stop gap and/or blitz specialist. We're going to give that a shot. Currently, we have a Level 6 linebacker, who is a fairly balanced specimen. Only three pieces of equipment, no customs, and stuck in the D-Leagues. He'll be an experiment in the early stages, and if it shows promise, may become a focal point in a stout, aggressive, smash mouth defense.

Beginning Stats: Level 6 [73/1000 EXP]
Strength: 25.65
Speed: 23.25
Agility: 20.65
Stamina: 20.03 (Training on Relaxed)
Vision: 23.24 (+3 equipment boost)

Misc. Statistics
Energy Level: 65
Morale: 93

Training/Play Stats
Training Focus: Stamina
Training Intensity: Relaxed
Play Intensity: Normal

Advanced Tactics
Tackling Style: Balanced
Defensive Focus: Balanced
Man Coverage Distance: Medium
Coverage Style: Medium

Experiment Stats:
Game 1 [July 4th, 2008]

Tackles: 3
Missed Tackle: 1
Tackle for Loss: 1
*Game Notes: After watching a few of the replays, it has come to my attention that Briggs is having a hard time with two things. His play recognition and pursuit need a bit of work. Hopefully putting some points in agility and vision will help this (2 agility, 1 vision). The second thing is that he's having problems getting through the line when blitzing. This is going to be addressed by 2 points into strength as well. All tactics will remain the same, to prevent them from becoming variables as well.

Game 2 [July 6th, 2008]
Tackles: 6
Missed Tackles: 0
Tackles for Loss: 0
*Game Notes: Nothing terribly special. Noticed he still wasn't reacting quickly. However he did level up after this game. I know it said I was planning on putting points into multiple areas, but I felt the need to dump the 5 SP into strength. I hope it'll make more visible differences once the strength gets higher. Debating on whether to soft cap it, then focus on agility. Might start training vision. Stats are open, so feel free to check the link for "new" attributes.

Needs more strength and agility [Center takes on Briggs and NT]:http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=10085611
Again, more strength [Blocked by a FB after breaking through the line]:http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=10085611
Again: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=10086279
Not sure exactly what he was doing here. Dancing?:http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=10086476
Vision Problem?Agility problem?:http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=10087122
Are you serious?: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=10088571

Needless to say, strength, vision, and agility are all still in need of serious increases.

****UPDATE ON JULY 9TH, 2008****
I decided to boost Briggs the full three levels. My reasoning was that he was only going to gain one more level the remainder of the season. With two games remaining, with the first one in just over 12 hours, he was at 800/1000 EXP. I felt that by boosting him, not only will he still level up after the game tomorrow, but I'll get to see the high strength in action. I pumped ALL of the 15 SP received into strength, putting him within 2 of the soft cap. After the level up tomorrow, all of those points will be dumped into agility. Not only is his strength much higher, but I'll be able to get two full games of data to work with.

On another note, I would like to eventually start building his Defense General SA, but unfortunately I'll have to spend 4 SP just to get there. I hate how the tree is set up

Game 4 [July 10th, 2008]
Tackles: 4
Missed Tackle: 0
Tackle for Loss: 0
Sack: 1 (2.5yd Loss)
Forced Fumble: 1
*Game Notes: I haven't watched any of the game film yet, but judging off stats and stats alone, I'd have to say that strength helped. A sack and a forced fumble are impressive. However, it is only the D-League. He did level after this game as well, I put 1 into strength, to hit the soft cap, and the remaining 4 into agility.
From here on out, I may put 1 point (2sp) into strength, two into agility, and one into speed/vision.

Game 5 [July 12th, 2008]
Tackles: 3
Missed Tackle: 1
Tackle for Loss: 1
Hurry: 1
Forced Fumble: 1
*Game Notes: It seems like the increase in strength is allowing him to break the line a little better, as is evident in his 1 sack and 1 hurry in the past 2 games. Also, two forced fumbles in the past two games as well. This was the final regular season game, and it will be early Season 4 before I will have a level up. However, I plan on keeping you guys posted for his D-League scrimmage games, as he did not make the playoffs

Game 6 [July 14th, 2008]
Tackles: 9
Missed Tackle: 0
Tackle for Loss: 1
Hurry: 0
Forced Fumble: 0
*Game Notes:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=11159135
-His strength is starting to show, as now he's taking on the linemen and busting through would be lead blockers, then making tackles. I saw quite a few examples of him breaking through a blocker, whether he ended up making the play was a different story. 5 games ago he couldn't shed a blocker to save his life.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=11156479
-Another example of him busting through a block. Almost came up with a sack here. Maybe agility, and a touch of speed would be helpful?
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=11157362
-Just an overall solid play of shedding the block and plugging the gap.

Game 7, [July 16th, 2008]
Tackles: 2
Missed Tackles: 0
Tackles for Loss: 1
Hurries: 2
Sacks: 0
Forced Fumbles: 0
*Game Notes: Changing his tackling tactics over to power didn't effect his missed tackles (THIS game) but I think in the future it may cause some issues. However, I think that strength is also an important factor in tackling the ball carrier, and that it may make up for his lack of tackling attributes.

Game 8 [July 18th, 2008]
Tackles: 5
Missed Tackles: 0
Hurries: 0
Sacks: 0
Forced Fumbles: 0
*Game Notes: Another game without a missed tackle. This leads me to believe that high strength may also help bring down the ball carrier, and could lead to tackling being less important than many would think.

Game 9 [July 20th, 2008]
Tackles: 4
Missed Tackles: 0
Hurries: 0
Sacks: 0
Forced Fumbles: 0
*Game Notes: A third straight game with Briggs' tackling set on power. A third straight game without a missed tackle. I haven't had any time to really sit down and review game film, as my FireFox is being pestered by little viruses (scanning and removing tonight) so I can't really judge his play recognition or his ability to GET to the play. I've recently moved all his equipment (Initial 4 + Custom 6) over to strength, and intend on putting his Level 8s there as well when I can afford them. I plan on putting every last bit of EQ into strength, and I doubt I'll vary much from that.

Joe Jurivisk..or however you spell his name.. The strength coach for the Cowboys says that strength is the most important thing for a middle linebacker. They have to be strong to get down the middle and through that center and guard. So he WOULD need high strength and agility.. atleast in real life that's what you need

It seems that strength is a lost trait amongst GLB linebackers, though. Let's see if this brings out the beast in Briggs haha

Can you date your game(s)?

It is done. He didnt have any attribute changes other than daily training between the base stats and todays game, so I guess that was a "base reading", so to speak.

Got a game tomorrow, get to see what the little boost in strength can do.

Also, going to boost him at season's end. Experiment will be on temp hold during the offseason. Getting a team, and might sign him as MLB there as well, give him some human competition.

Yea, that'd be a good idea. I really would like for you to keep us/me updated on this. I'm super interested on it.

From reading your comment after game 2 where you said you might get his strength up to the soft-cap level. If you did this, you could train agility some of the time to take advantage of the strength.
