Where can I find info on this. I remember being told that the penalty is small for dot that play similar positions. I think I even remember them saying that they did apply on ST as well.

Would love some help on this.

Thanks
Jim

dont think that there are exact #s. FB/HB cant be a big hit. my powerback used to play a lot of FB and still did very well. probably roughly 5%.

OT playing WR is probably just brutal.

This. The OT probably functions at -50% or worse

TE at WR is 5-10% i think.

Note that the positional relationships are not reversible. FB at TE seems to be ~5%, but TE at FB is definitely higher to the point that you never want to do it. Similarly, I think WR at TE is around 5% but TE at WR is larger.

Yeah. Dot's you can swap for a minimum penalty one way don't do the same in the opposite. I think a Safety playing CB is a low risk... but a CB playing Safety seems to be wonky.

I know some folks go crazy with this. I'm very conservative about it unless I have big holes in my roster.
Would just be nice to really know what's up. I asked a mod a long time ago if it applied to ST and he said yes.
If so why are so many folks going away from 5 or 7 Center stops that would seemingly have a small Penalty on punt and punt return teams? I would think a Stop Center playing G or T on your Punt team would be much better than a LB or DE if there was a significant Penalty.

There are no out of position penalties on special teams except at kicker, punter, and maybe long snapper. There is some dispute about long snapper.

Totally agree. People even play (insert whatever dot) at returner and they perform according to their specs. (Note... if you have a dot with low/no carrying at returner, then fumbles are your fault.) I've seen about everything ST-wise in who plays where. And also agree on Long Snapper seeming to be 'plug whomever into that slot'. Many teams use a defensive player. I've just never taken that chance.

(BTW, also wanna add that you WANT to play defensive players (if you don't have STOP Dots) at LG, RT, RG, and LT in punt formations. Offensive players cannot tackle for crap and, once the punt is kicked, they're just slow useless things. So there's plenty of places where you play dots OOP. on ST's. )

Agree, I've always used a C. I've never seen a botched snap. I would be curious if anyone else has had a bad snap on ST. Especially from an out - of - position player.

There are no botched snaps in GLB.

yeah - there was a Bort/Catch quote about the LS being an OL or DL player to not get an OOP penalty

As long as I have been here you could use a qb as Ls for snap purpose. Would suck on returns but base snap you will never have an issue ever with any player at Ls for a snap

I think that quote had solid numbers attached too, but apparently the Q&A wiki stuff is gone.

Well, for me it was never about the 'botched snap'... I've never had a Punt or FG blocked and that's why I do it.
