Not true.
My understanding from the old days when Bort walked amongst men, was that the AEQ would help if the WR failed to catch the ball and the CB was getting another shot at it.

But that is a chance it is ither bobbled or deflected, correct?
If that's the case, would it be worth it at higher levels when bobbled passes are least to occur?

Sweet, just spent 66 tokens on refresh store for my LV72 corner and got absolutely jacks**t. That was the best piece to pop up, but wasn't sure about the qualifier on catch ball%.

yes, but INT% is much better. Someone will be by with a quote from Bort as far as the mechanics of an INT, but as a result of what has been said, most do not feel that CB% has much use for corners.

on the bright side if you have good catching you can play good out of position now

If I didn't know better I would say you are a dpride multi
Catch ball % is effective if you are going hard for interceptions. If you are trying to be good at everything it is certainly a poor opportunity cost.

I could of sworn that somewhere catch said it didn't work on defense

Maybe you are thinking:
1) the great AEQ exchange, where catch ball chance could not be exchanged for Def AEQ; or
2) SAs like One-Handed Catch do not work on D.

Jump Catch SA does not work on defense, but there is no way Catch Ball % doesn't work on defense...

My understanding of it ... aggressive ball hawk type, go +int% only.
Semi-aggressive deflect/int guy, +catch% starts to have some value.
Reasoning: Wish I could find a link to the Bort Q&A where he broke down the 'order of operations' on a pass reception, but here's my recollection of it:
1) Defender breaks underneath the pattern = interception attempt, +int % applies, +catch% doesn't.
2) Contested catch roll - proximity counts against the receiver.
3) Interception roll - if the DB wins #2, he gets an interception attempt - however it's a much harder roll than 1, due to the receiver's proximity counting against the DB now. For this roll, both int% and catch% apply.
That's my recollection of it ... but with no Wiki search of the Q&As, can't find / quote it.

Seriously folks, the answer is NO, grabbing a piece of Catch Ball% for a CB is ALWAYS STUPID. Whether or not there's a chance it helps in some situation that essentially NEVER HAPPENS has no bearing on the fact that there are at LEAST 12 AEQ bonuses that would better suit any CB.
Any good CB who has Catch Ball% could have been better with something else.
