the game isnt letting me use my free player slot on halfbacks, everything else seems ok- why is this?

You can't use your free player to make low demand positions.....if it resorts back to average demand it will allow you to but after d40/41 this unlikely for HB's 
TE's are also low demand so you can't use a free player on one of these also.

It's a way to keep other positions relevant and also stop people from making multi's.

You just get signed. There used to be agent run drafts, but those aren't around anymore. To my knowledge...

You don't really "play as" anyone. You can have multiple players, and if they are signed to a team, they will play when they're scheduled to play. You don't need to be online and you don't control them. You can train them and assign Skill Points to them, so I guess in a sense you "play as" them.

You just get signed. There used to be agent run drafts, but those aren't around anymore. To my knowledge...

that could be said about any position in the game though.
You only get two, and HB's two days ago were at 2.74 per team yet this is "low demand"
since the most logical choice of return man is using a HB (free player) they should not be low demand until over 3 IMO.

There used to be a draft a while ago...nobody runs a draft anymore but I may run it again in the near future
