I would hope/expect it works, but don't think i've ever needed to test it out.....
When you boost a player, it asks whether to use flex or reward points. Going into next season, i have 550 flex and a bit of reward pts. If i boosted my 200 player 3 times looking to use the flex option.... would it just take the remaining 50 owed out of my reward points or be stupid and say i dont have enough flex to complete a 3rd boost?
