Opinions are needed on cover cb's.
Does it matter at the lower levels or should these tactics be addressed?

it almost don't matter. unless building peewee style your defenders probably wont have the needed vision to see the play or agility to make the cuts. a larger cushion might help at rookie though

You're more likely to get the PD if the defender is slightly trailing the receiver.

If the defender is in front of the receiver, you are looking at problems.

since you are talking about lots of CB's that have underdeveloped skills for a lot of INTs, I would go with go for the deflection (semi agressive) settings with very little cushion about -.90 setting.

Agree with Cy I do. I had more INT's (with my DB's) when I was set to "deflect/defend" rather than when to intercept. Reasons could vary but I believe it was because of the following;
#1, when I was a scout many seasons ago, I noticed there seemed to be more INT's off of deflections than simply pure INT's by themselves. Often the deflector also made the INT. And while INT's are awesome... just stopping the completions is, to me, more important. 3 and out is a DC's mantra (or should be).
#2, As Cy pointed out, even at higher levels, CB's simply don't usually have more catching than whom they're covering. And you can't INT something someone else catches.
And lastly, #3, it's worthy to scout your opponents receiver builds to check their height out and try to match up your taller defenders against theirs. A 5'8" DB is gonna have issues covering a 6'3" WR even if all other skills are fairly equal. It's why having a good tall cover LB to cover TE's is a good thing. And tall safeties is also good to have.

great question ..... and people go back and forth with their opinions so let's just look at the facts .....

as someone referred to ..... if matchups are mostly equal at lwr lvls .... (and it's not necessarily based on HT/WT) ..... being placed in the ultimate position is the real key to make the chosen tactics effective .... so , the overall set-up is a key to effective player tactics .....

but, of course, ALSO as referred to by Bane , ATT's are mostly responsible for performance ..... COV , especially at lwr lvls , depends on whether you are building an absolute performer, or an EL QUEEN ...

tactics , from every angle (PLAYER, ATT's, AI, DC, ETC) come together to provide function ...

probaly if you want them to throw your way whe they throw give them a cushion. if you want to play a more smothering style and get less passes thrown your way choose no cushion.

like itsthe differencebetween getting it thrown your way 150 times or almost never. thats not firm of course. bottom line is stick it in her butt even if she says no. sometimes she takes over
