Looks like he is set to cover HB Weak then Under Middle Zone (or maybe cover TE or one of the WRs). It just took him a minute to realize the HB was going Strong instead of Weak.

looks like he helped create the sack though since the LG moved up to where the MLB was coming in

potential exploit to draw off OLs? a fake blitz?

My initial thought was an under middle third zone and somehow he thought the HB was in his zone.

but that's not a blitz thats disguised to look like it isn't one-- in the play the OP linked its a non-blitz that looks like it is a blitz. while that kind of a fake blitz might be a good SA to have, it isn't what Disguise Blitz does.

it looks to me like he's blitzing then decides to cover the zone instead--but since partial blitzes aren't a real thing, it must be one or more failed vision checks somewhere.

the only thing that makes any sense is that the LBs instructions end with covering the under middle zone since he stops there for a tick or two right at the end rather than continue a path that would chase one or more of the route runners in the area. the mystery is what the first part of his instructions were and why he moves forward then back the way he does.

I suspect either he reads the pass play as a run play repeatedly (failing several vision checks) or he initially misreads where his coverage assignment route was going. the former would seem unlikely (even with low vision for that age/level) due to the duration--he ran forward for at least 10 ticks before going to his zone. and the latter explanation could be called a bug as the HB (the most probable coverage assignment was HB weak) was clearly moving toward the strong side from the get go.

but until the DC of that team posts something that says what the playcall entailed, we can only speculate.

Looks like to me he is taking on the superman role: playing all positions simultaneously............
