Serious thread.

Player interest seems to decidedly wan as teams enter the mid to late regular season as teams clearly drop from contention and others lock in playoff appearances.

Would it make sense to fire off the regular season more quickly so that this long dry spell of player ambivalence is reduced or avoided?

You could do it as easily as making regular season games fire every day rather than every other day.

Or you could even amp it up and make regular season games fire TWICE a day.

That way the playoffs are only 10 to 18 days after season start.

Surely the most jaded of us can maintain a level of interest that long?

I like it the way it is. If you need more action, get involved in tournaments and/or GM more teams.

Im not talking about the action angle, though thats a thing as well.

I mean the fact that come this time of season the forum traffic dwindles to a fraction and many players have tuned out of the game, either waiting for the "real season" or because their team is already out of contention.

Well, not everyone can win. Can't stop folks from throwing in the towel and working towards next season.

No, of course.

But you can reduce the time they are in that situation by removing the down time between the games.

It is also summer in the Northern Hemisphere and for those of us with long winters, we aren't too keen on spending our days on the computer.

then I would feel rushed, and that would be too much of a pain in the butt.

It's all dependent on your situation and what kind of league you're in. When I have teams in elite I am entertained throughout the season and it seems like the season is over as soon as it started. When I'm in a non-competitive league or a league I care nothing about the season drags on for what seems to be 6 months.

It becomes a hassle to gameplan for a game every single day, and there is already a shortage of decent OCs and DCs.

I dont think you can go shorter than a 16 game season either without shortening conferences to 12 or 14 teams, which I dont see happening.

If the season was shortened or the games were smashed together I think I would quit. There already isn't enough time to do everything as is when you have work and a life past GLB.

Just because someone isn't making a post..... doesn't mean that they aren't active and interested.

I'm almost always on the game. If I'm not... I'm either at work, asleep, or will probably be logging back on very soon. However, I don't really post much. I spend alot of my time watching games, whether it be mine or an opponents games, to see if any weaknesses may jump out at me. (In other words..... I'm one that actually watches games, not just clicking on the box score and looking at the stats to see if I think we did a good job in the game.)

Does this mean that my interest has waned????? I don't think so.

I'm sure there are lots of people that spend alot of time on the game that aren't heavy posters. Some probably never even come to these forums.
