Forum > Goal Line Blitz > Dual Threat QB for Casual
Dual threats in casual only amount to being mediocre in both rushing and passing.
Dual threats have the ability to mildly work in regular dotball, mostly when you can utilize two sets of EQ (one passing, one rushing).

Wouldn't two sets of eq work just as well in Casual?

I get where you're going w/ that, but it's not equal, imo. A dual threat is really something that is only worthwhile w/ absolute control (especially from the opposing DC perspective where you take advantage of them overreacting to one side of your game). Can you switch things up w/ basic settings/wildcat preset/etc? Obviously, but it's nowhere near the same.
Well if you dont use a preset it gives you the option to fully control when to run and pass the ball and you dont have to worry about the passing QB running.
It may not be as effective as specialized dots but it adds an extra dimension

Correct
I'm sure it would work well until you found a DC who had a stellar Defense and know how to use a "QB Spy" Lol.
Then again if you know you're up against a good team you could just have him pass, taking advantage of that spy doing nothing to stop you; but is that 1 dot worth the loss to your passing?

Somehow it doesn't make sense. On any other dot build, just about everyone will post that trying to build a "multi-purpose/jack-of-all-trades" dot just doesn't work as well as one built for a specific purpose. I know that trying to make a Guard that is both a Run block AND Pass block makes a shitty guard when finished. Not horrible... but dang sure not as good as it could've been. Why do people think that making a QB that can "do it all" is any different? Can they be built? Sure. Will they work? Sure. Will they ever be what the builders imagine (RBIII, Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick...)? I just seriously doubt it. Lower the expectations a little and sure you can build a dual threat you can enjoy.

uh lol shouldn't an offensive linemen be built to do both?

This is dotball, brother. The answer is "HELL NO."

The answer is that if you ran that Qb all season, then swapped his EQ to passing in the finals only when they were going to zone you, then yes....it would work.
What doesn't work is running a QB 100% of the time to get to the finals.
Capiche?

Seriously though, it's not that a run block guard can't pass protect... it's that they're not as good as one specifically designed for that very purpose. How bad is the difference? Not something I can quantify with numbers but there's a reason the run block guard gets subbed for on obvious pass plays. In fact, as a former DC, I always felt it would be awesome if I could somehow "tag" Pass Block O-linemen and tie it to the playcalling so I could better match up the defense. I'd be ok with a team trying to exploit that by running with their pass blocking linemen in the game.

No, you don't know that at all. You think that, and as usual regarding GLB, your thoughts are completely wrong.

There are no custom slots for offensive linemen (aside from the goal line formation). Jesus H. Christ.

Guessing he means forcing starters, making the pass block O line start ... so that for obvious 3rd pass distances, they're always in.
Drawback being ... then you're stuck with goal line for 3rd and short, or praying the pass block OL doesn't get mauled.
