Casual: you won by 241 pts bro, why does it matter that he kicked?

Plus, it would be a bigger travesty to run a play that ran out the clock. I agree that a 20 second play is unlikely, but a 15 second one isn't. Better for GLB to not take the risk.

A 15 second play is rarified air - because you'd basically need your QB to hold the ball for 10 seconds. Other than Big Ben, thats not happening.

The play itself may only take 5-10 seconds, but it's the nonsense after the play (getting back to the ball, substitutions, play calls, lining up, etc) that take so much time.

BRIAN H only plays this game at one speed

OP said the offense still had all its timeouts.

I noticed something weird in our tourney game last night and thought of this thread. The O gets a first down on a 9.5 yard pass play and uses a time out before the next play, but somehow 33 seconds still went off the clock: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2423028&pbp_id=4358749

http://wiki.goallineblitz.com/index.php/Timeout_Logic

I'm not sure if that's up to date, but it matches the situation.

My point was how much time went off before the timeout. That seems wrong.

here is what I suggest in terms of when to call the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd timeout on offense...
IF Offense Timeouts Left = 3, and a play ends with less than 55 seconds left, immediately call a timeout. (Assuming reasonable field position/down/distance/score.)
IF Offense Timeouts Left = 2, and a play ends with less than 35 seconds left, immediately call a timeout. (Assuming reasonable field position/down/distance/score.)
IF Offense Timeouts Left = 1, and a play ends with less than 15 seconds left, immediately call a timeout. (Assuming reasonable field position/down/distance/score.)
Don't ever run the clock down and then call a timeout except in the last-second field goal case.

Are you saying that it took more time of the clock to call a timeout, than it would have to run another play (before the 45 second mark) ? I'd assume that the sim would run a play, if it had enough time. There is a 38 second, 2 yard run play just a few plays before.

Ah, ok. So the timeout won't be called until 0:45 no matter how much time had passed.

I'm saying that calling the timeout after 33 seconds have passed is silly since you could presumably save the timeout and just run the play while only losing a few more seconds. If a timeout is going to be called at all then it should be called as soon as possible. If you're not saving at least ten seconds then don't call the timeout.

Yeah, I see your point and do agree. But that would probably be a bitch to program, since the current timeout logic is p simple compared to that.
