I haven't been on GLB since maybe season 20 - 22. I had another account (username: Attack!) that I had since season 1. Long story short, I forgot the password and any information to that account so I made this one a while back and just became active again. It seems that GLB is dying, I don't see a lot of updates/changes recently. I want to buy flex points and get back into GLB like I used to be but I don't want to waste my money for this game to last a season and then end. Does anyone know what the future is for this game?

MODS: If this is in the wrong section then please close it or move it. I am just curious and don't want to waste my money.

The game is out of beta, and thus is not being changed much. That is good in some ways (you can actually plan builds out ahead of time and have a decent shot that they will still be able to do what you wanted them to do) and bad in other ways (game can get a little stagnant without having to guess the next big nerf).

IMO (GLB Admins can and will correct me, I'm sure), the community of players is shrinking, but the game does not seem to be in danger of being shut down anytime soon. I think if you enjoy the current game, you would be able to take your players from creation to plateau without risk that they will pull the plug on the game or that you will run out of opponents between now and then.

This.

The community is certainly much smaller than it used to be... no denying that. However, I think people tend to look at the tiny number of people still posting in the forums and make the mistake of overestimating how important that is... I'd say among all of the teams I'm associated with and all the agents on those teams, only 10% or so of those agents ever post in the public forums. So, if someone's basis for saying "The game is dead" is "Look at how quiet the forums are!", well, that's not a very accurate standard.

There's still quite a few active players -- again, not as many as before, but too many to declare the game is dead. I've seen no indication that the plug will be pulled anytime soon.

I do also think the admins are putting too much faith in their "next game" and its ability to draw in new users to GLB, and as such they're not paying nearly enough attention to the health of GLB. They really oughta be dancing with who brung 'em. But that's okay. We're having fun without them anyway.

Just go to your local gamestore and pre-order a Playstation 4.

not only will that be a cheaper option in the long run,

you will have fun.

For someone who thinks this game isn't fun, you sure post in the forums a lot.

...

That goes for anybody who still plays this game while loudly declaring how it's not any fun anymore. Either you're lying (in which case, shut up) or you're masochistic (in which case, shut up). If it truly wasn't any fun for you anymore, you wouldn't still be playing it.

I have an idea that goes hand in hand with marketing to attract new players and getting them to stay with the game. Or at least increasing the chance they stay with the game

It's a lot of boring reading so only continue if you are prepared.

I think it would be a good idea for the powers to be to give some long time trusted players FREE rookie teams that are always reset each season (or every other season after Prep league). Then when a new Agent logs in for the first time they are recommended to join one of those teams, with advice to look into the team forums. The forums for that team will have all the guides for what new players will need to learn to be effective at the game and they can ask/get advice from experienced users. After the 1-2 seasons the team is reset to rookie, and that agent's dots are left to either find a new team, or retire and build again now that they know alot more about the game.

One of the biggest problems with retaining new players is it can take a long time to learn how to build a dot, so they can get frustrated by how poorly it performs, then they learn how long it takes to build a dot till completion and don't want to spend that much. The free players help, but if there was a more new user friendly infrastructure in place we could maybe hold on to the new talent as the marketing picks up and brings more and more new users to the game.

Too bad it's probably never gonna happen

Get thee to the Suggestions forum!

Probably NGTH, but maybe it will give Bort and Catch a starting point. They say they've recently been discussing how to make GLB more n00b-friendly, so you might as well get this idea its own thread.

I don't think they'd go for it because of the word FREE being in there. Although it would be good in the long run since I really think it would help keep new players involved, Involved players means more people buying flex. I'll let it mull here for a little bit, maybe even get some more input into ways it can be better. Then deliver a final product to the suggestion forum.

Its a smaller user base but still alive and kicking. I don't see it closing down anytime soon. I actually still enjoy it as much as I did 5 years ago.
