How about a check box next to the Purshase button? Something like "Equip after purshase?"
ETA: Default would be un-checked.

What we really need is an addition to the homepage workshop. We already have Quick Training Editor | Quick Tactics Editor | Quick Utility Editor | Create New Player | Boost Players | Free Agents | Today's Games ... adding in a "Quick Equipment Editor" would be awesome. There you could upgrade EQ/AEQ, and take off or put on EQ/AEQ/CEQ. At LEAST the second part!!! I'd still want the rolling/building AEQ separate as is... and CEQ as is.
I would be happy with a box under the dot on home page that would take me straight to his EQ page (and another for his tactic page) kind of like we have for Team's on our home page (be that owned or GM teams, boxes are there)
