New to the game... Should special skills not be touched until a certain point? Or can you invest in special skills right away?

General word is to wait atleast until level 60.

If you are playing Peewee however, some have a very tactical use even as low as level 8.

If you are going to keep them until they reach lv 79 then you should wait until around lv 70 to add SA. If you are only going to keep them for a couple of seasons it doesn't matter.

You shouldn't even THINK about putting Skill Points into Special Abilities until you're almost done with your build... at least past Level 60, and even then I'd wait a bit longer than that.

Remember, your major and minor Attributes get Automatic Level Gains every time you level up, but Special Abilities don't. It's all about getting the most out of those ALGs, and that means pumping as much as you can into your Attributes early on.

You can, of course, use Equipment to get points into Special Abilities early on... that's fine. But that should be the only way you get any points into SAs early on.

Great point. Pee Wee is its own whole little world.

If you're building a dot for Rookie instead of Pee Wee (no, they're not the same thing), then my advice applies.

If I made the mistake of adding to special skills at level 4, but I want to keep them should I just build their other attributes more and not touch the special skills for a while? Or should I just retire them?

You can have some fun with him tbh, he is in the dleagues and comepetition is not high, and the pressure to create a perfect dot is not high.

I would mess around with this QB (also unless you have the $, don't boost it either) and learn the ins and outs.

Probably best to finish out the rest of this season just to have some fun with him, then retire him on Day 41 and start over. See if you can at least win him a ring in Rookie since you won't have any long-term build repercussions to worry about.

However, you can also install GreaseMonkey and the Virtual Player Builder script, load up your dot's current build, and take him up to Plateau just to see how he looks. If you think he still looks okay, then keep playing him. Don't know if he can get into WL, but he might still have a fun career.

It's all up to you.

(EDIT: Although, holy cow, you put a LOT of SPs into those SAs. That'll be hard to recover from in the long-term... probably best to just play out this season, then retire on Day 41, to be honest.)

What long term effects would it have on the player? Just that he would plateau too early?

Plateau happens at Age 281 for every dot. (by then as long as you've boosted you'll be level 79)

The problem with all of the SPs you used in the SAs so early is that you won't be able to take advantage of the ALGs (Automatice Level Gains) that your majors/minors get everytime your dot levels up.
And the problem with not taking advantage of these ALGs early on is that by the time your dot has reached plateau he will be (at best) behind a few points in each attribute, which is a big problem in this game. You won't be able to make it to the premier league (World League) and you may not even make it to Pros if you don't have a dot capable of competing with the others, who have taken full advantage of ALGs early on and thus will have much higher core attributes than you.

Novus has done a great job with his advice imo. Finish out your season, without boosting, to use the time to figure out how the training works and learn more about the overall process of dotbuilding. That way you can learn as much as possible, apply it, and then restart and try it for real when you feel comfortable with it all.

with the 20 SPs after the 25th boost, it probably should be way later than level 60

Personally, I like to wait until Level 79, but that's just me.
