1.) If a team owner promises you a starting spot, RUN AWAY. He's either lying just to get you to sign on the dotted line (and you don't want to play for a liar), or he's telling the truth but is willing to let a player keep their starting spot even if it's hurting the team (which in turn means he's incompetent and you don't want to play for them anyway).
2.) Ask questions. Find out what the team owner has planned for your dot, what sort of offense they'll be running, what sort of defense they'll be running, who is going to handle all of the duties for the team, what sort of experience the owner and his coordinators have, etc. If their answers sound like they were written by a 6 year old, odds are they're not organized and dedicated enough to run a team the right way. If their answers sound evasive, vague, or don't make any sense, find another team.
3.) Take your time. Don't rush things. Wait a few days before you sign with a team. The odds of you missing out on a great opportunity with a great team are slim, as long as you're honest with the team owner and let them know you're going to take your time making up your mind.

My best advice is to network with agents prior to even making the dots. Find out which team owner or team organization at the Pro or WL level is making a new team. Then figure out what positions they are still looking for. This all goes on during the season so that by the time d40 comes around, the team has 55 dots created and ready to be signed come d42.
if it makes you feel any better, ive been playing for almost 5 years and im not in a network. some of us are just too terrible for em.

Team's cant offer players yet. Today is a signing freeze. You should get some offers tomorrow or the next day.

Also note, by boosting already, many teams will look at your players as non optimal. You might want to consider remaking them (if they are free players) and start again without boosting them till day 48.
There are a number of "how do i build" posts in the forum you can look at for general guidelines as well.
It's not something that makes your players useless, but seeing someone already boost immediately tends to indicate that you may not know what you're doing and "good" teams will be less likely to want to sign you.

That works.
Don't forget the Marketplace too. On your player's page, look for the blue button along the right side that says "Free Agency Ad Options." Click on that, and you can create a Marketplace ad for each of your dots.
