I don't think it will ever be what it once was. The obvious things of making is more simple while still being ultimately competitive. And less costly. But alas those things aren't going to happen any time soon if at all. Best thing to hope for is that the new games are very fun.

this is about the same thinking I have. but I was sort of thinking back to when I started GLB and what made it fun. and I know back then I really enjoyed the league forums. they seemed to have a bunch of good rivalries. and they seemed to not be filled with a bunch of butthurt like they are now. I know that I didn't really like the Cobra Kai stuff but that group made the game fun. they would get their butts kicked by someone and they would simply reply Leg Swept and you had a instant forum war for a day or so. which was funny as hell to read. I don't know I guess I just sort of miss the old days somewhat.

Oh there was tons of butthurt back then in league forums. But there was also great rivalries with good posts too. The under pro forums are sort of fun now. The WL forums have kinda died from rivalries because well...it doesn't feel like a rivalry as much when we are playing each other daily. The only real rivalries that come out do so in the playoffs for a couple days and then they die for another 32 days.

Pro is just dead. WL made pro the AAA leagues and it will never recover. It honestly doesn't matter how competitive you make it. The pride of those leagues wasn't competition. It was the fight for what region was best. By making WL you didn't just take away the WSI's or Santiago's of those leagues to make things more competitive, you essentially took away their identities all together. I remember being a fringe playoff team in SEA Pro. But outside the thought of trying to think I could win SEA Pro, the bigger thing was omg does anyone think we might be a top 50 team in GLB? Or holy shit we got to win this game tomorrow against such and such from Canada Pro so that we hold our league pride in a seasonal Region battle. Or hey we just won our tournament game today. SEA Pro is now 9-3 in the tourney and we didn't fail them. It wasn't really even about your team much of the time, I mean it was always about your own team, but in a larger sense you all came together like the fucking justice league or the Avengers because you wanted to feel like you were in the best region. To me...the end of that was when GLB died quite a bit.

you know I hadn't thought of it like that. I guess you are right I remember back when my first team actually made it to Pro in canada. I had a ton of pride and felt that I had accomplished something. then when we lost I think 3 championship games in a row that made it that harder to bare. I miss those days and wish that we could somehow get back to some of those old feelings.

There was a ton of missed potential for Pro League fun. I always thought there should have been a Cyber Dunk style all pro tourney, where the members of a league could vote on the coordinators and the coordinators could then pick the dots from that league to play in an inter-league tourney. They borrowed a ton of elements from CD it's a shame they passed on its best sandbox(interactive) features. Which is something I never really understood, there were so many opportunities to make agents a part of the game but in each case they were treated with what seemed like total disdain. This was most evident in the HOF fiasco, where dozens of agents spent days assembling a HOF committee, compiling stats, setting up voting etc. only to be replaced at the last minute by a meaningless, half assed, abortion of a system.

Yeah the HoF was a huge letdown for the most part. I would have really liked to see the GLB Hall of Fame actually mean something. there just isn't any pride that goes along with it in reality.

I'm not sure how you can have any faith in the userbase when the only plays close to the "top plays" in voting are bugs. I mean, really.

Disappearing? We had it all set up and then Bort unveiled his HoF and ours was just kinda swept under the rug.

there's still got to be plenty of room for this site to evolve besides changing the actual gameplay or league structures (which can easily do more harm than good). so much of the burden to create the GLB Experience is placed in the hands of the users. while it certainly gives the admins ample time to do their behind the scenes stuff, there's a massive lack of official-ness when it comes to stuff like power rankings, highlights, and even feuds and storylines. and right now there is absolutely zero reason for a user to care about what's going on in a league in which they have no involvement.

it's always seemed like GLB has been lacking a good team of pure outside-the-box thinkers. sim aside, it took way too long for the site to evolve into what it is now. and there are still tons more elements of other MMOs that GLB could try to mirror, all without touching the sim or leagues.

Ok, so now for my actual not smart ass answer.

Get rid of networks.
Bring back cash (atleast make it mean something)
Make EQ costs cheaper, this is after cash is brought back, so teams can afford good players and build a stadium
Make player development quicker, maybe make players got from 0 to 79 in 5 seasons)
Let players reach level 100
