Okay some, most?, of you gamer geeks out there probably have at one time in your life gleefully bought a package of trading cards (we will assume for sake of appearances that they were baseball cards and not Magic the Gathering or Pokeman), to eagerly rip open the package to see what your uncommons and rares were and perhaps to find an elusive common or two to complete your set. Then, when dissapoint sets in as you realize your rare is one you have three of, you traipse off the comic book store...erm the school playground...to see if you can trade your Sorrows Path um I mean Derek Jeter to some foolish friend to get a couple uncommons or a good rare.
Its a time honored American way of play, and its a cash cow industry selling kids the same common cards they do not want over and over, just to find that one elusive rare. And it increases social interaction and joy, in a nerdy kinda way.
Sooooo without further ado.
Players could buy GLB trading card dots. The flex is non-refundable (no retirement refund for the purchase price for these dots to avoid this being a way to give away flex and to avoid a re-roller script fiasco).
Create New Player Packets, flavor them by Offense and Defense if you like but I would keep it purely generic. These would consist of 12 New Players whose positions builds and archetypes are randomly selected, within a set pattern as set forth below.
The dots builds would be similar to what we have now, but with possible shifting of points from non-Primary non-Secondary to Primary or Secondary Skills similar to what we had when we rolled for players. How many points can be shifted and how will vary according to the pattern below. Height and Weight would also be random within a narrow range of normal choices for the archetype. Additional SAs (your third row starter) would not be preset, you would still get to select this.
1 Card in each packet would be a Rare or a 1 in 100 chance of an Ultra Rare.
3 Cards in each packet would be an UnCommon.
6 Cards in each packet would be a Common
Ultra Rares would be of the following types. Glamor with 3 to 5 points shifted, height and weight optimized. No Special Teams or Kick Return Archetypes.
Rares. Glamor with 1-2 points shifted and height and weight optimized, Normals with 3 to 5 points shifted and height and weight optimized. No Special Teams or Kick Return Archetypes.
UnCommons. Glamor with no points shifted and more random height and weight, Normals with 1 to 2 points shifted and height and weight optimized. Non-Glamor with 3 to 5 points shifted and height and weight optimized.
Commons. Normals with 0 to 1 points shifted and and more random height and weight. Non-Glamor with 0 to 2 points shifted and more random height and weight.
When you open your dot you have the option to add him to your Tradable Dot Pool or to finish building him. If Built he becomes your dot and is not tradable, in the normal fashion.
If placed in your Tradable Pool your dot goes into a list of your dots you can add to the Tradable Dot Marketplace (you could probably use Draft like nomenclature here or something to differentiate it from the normal trade interface). This would be an automated process where dots could be searched for and trades proposed similar to the player trade system we have now. Balance should probably not be required but if so it could be accomplished by combining equal points with 6 to 1 points assigned to dots based upon the number of points shifted, perhaps with 2 and 1 points added to Glamor and Normal dots. So to trade away a Glamor Ultra Rare you would need to get 8 points back, which could be 8 shifted Commons etc.
In this way we could get Super Star players and have more fun with the creation process. Yet, since this would be an OPTION you could still build as normal if you wished to get a specific dot without hassle.
Cost - I would suggest that since you could conceivably get 4 Glamors and on average say maybe 3 Normals and 3 Non Glamor pricing could be as high as 2100 Flex. But you could also get as low as 4 Normals and 6 Non Glamor which would run 1400 Flex, averaging to 1750 Flex. But the flex is non-refundable (no retirement refund for the purchase price for these dots to avoid this being a way to give away flex and to avoid a re-roller script fiasco). So some discount is in order there, say 30%. And you are gambling to get something so maybe another discount again since you may not get what you want. So lets round it off and say the New Player Packet would cost 1000 Flex - non refunable.
Would that be cool or what?
