I know it's been asked a million times, but will they ever update the players attributes so the entire team doesn't have to have a kicking and punting attribute?
I mean, I would figure that after all this time, they would have incorporated things like man and zone coverage for defensive players in the primary attributes.Things like "route running" for WR,TE and backfield. I know there are special abilities with these, but I think players could get more use from certain special abilities if they were in their primary attributes. I just can't help to look at my WR with 8 kicking, 8 punting and 8 throwing, and think those 24 points could be used elsewhere. Could minimize the number of special abilities and then make them actually "special", Man or Zone specialist shouldn't be a special ability, it should be a primary attribute so it has more of an effect for the player.

Changes like this are in the past, you will have to live with the current system.

Just think of it as a baseline "I'm a functioning human being with all their limbs" rating. If you MADE anyone on a football field punt, they could physically do it. An 8 rating would mean, hopefully, that they sucked at it. But they could still DO it.

It's not wasting points, it's just an acknowledgement that any football player could do any skill...they just can't do it well.

Unfortunately you're right. however, it's been a big topic of conversation with me the past few days. If GLB ever wants to attract more users, it needs to improve on even some of the simplest things like the attributes.

yeah but then If I thought like that, then there should be a breathing and running. It should be one of those "goes without saying type things. Obviously we know that a football player could kick whether good or bad.

I'll quote a new friend of mine "GLB started out as a football simulation game and it has turned into a game of math". It's losing it's football appeal.

GLB isn't Madden. Just because Madden chose the boatload of attributes route doesn't make it ideal. I actually like GLB's limited set because it's relatively concrete with what each attribute does. Madden has tons of overlap where you end up with uncertainty and lost with what each attribute actually does. E.g. you've got speed, agility, acceleration, and elusiveness.

Also, the math stereotype is lulzy given that 99.9% of us don't break out calculators or excel spreadsheets. Are there optimal strategies to maximize attributes? Of course, but that's any game. Hell, in the past even Madden has had 'gaming' strategies with player creation, maximizing attributes that are hard to raise and while sacrificing in areas where it is easy to gain.

GLB's biggest challenge is never the attributes. It's the relative barrier to entry with player building. Attracting new users is easy with cross-promotion from traffic generated by the new game (whatever it may be) and a referral system with proper incentives. Keeping them is the issue.

The fact of the matter is that GLB is relatively complex. It's GLB's biggest strength and weakness. A new user to the game has to understand player building strategies from the getgo instead of learning 1 or 2 dots in. That means you've got about 1 in 1000 doing it right. The 999 doing it wrong have to stick around through the agonizing seasons of struggling to find a team, dealing with crappy teams when they do find a home, and then talks of retiring their dots they put months into.

And it's not the Wiki's fault. It's just the structure of things. You've got this networked group of individuals 'maintaining' the game who also act as a barrier to entry for new users. The only way around it is recognizing the network/friends aspect of the game and somehow incentivizing pulling in new users. Essentially you have to pit networks up against each other with incentives for drawing in new users.

If you took punting away from the players who shouldn't be punting, you'd have a bunch of CPU teams that use guards as punters that wouldn't have that attribute. Then what?

(Also, why don't CPU run teams have an obligation to start punters and kickers?)

The only way changes like that are made would be if the "next game" was GLB 2.0.

I honestly don't see a re-write as their next project. I'd say the "next game" will be followed by baseball. If the company is still going at that point I could see GLB 2.0.
