where does the third TE in GL come from on the depth chart? TE or BTE?

there's also 1 TE listed on "GL only"--if i put TEs here will it put them in all three GL TE slots?

Here's how the sim fills in the 3 TE slots on a Goalline play.

First, it checks the Goalline-specific TE depth chart slot. If you have 3 dots in that slot, then you're done.

If you have 2, 1 or 0 dots in that slot, then the next place the sim looks is wherever you tell it to look in your Package or AI Output, whether that's TE, TE1, TE2 or BTE.

If there still aren't enough TEs to fill all 3 spots, well... from there it gets unpredictable. That's when the sim starts trying to guess, and that's how you end up with a FB playing TE, then a HB getting pulled into FB, and then a WR getting pulled into HB.

...

So? Your best option is to just use the friggin' Goalline-specific TE depth chart slot. Put 3 dots in there. If you have 3 TEs on your roster, put all of them in there. If you only have 2 TEs, then use 2 TEs and an OT, or 2 TEs and whoever you want in the 3rd TE slot.

But if you leave the Goalline-specific TE depth chart slot empty, you're playing with fire. Too great a risk that the sim is going to go off the reservation and do crazy things that you don't want it to do.

...

One thing to keep in mind is that there is no specific energy setting that matches up with the Goalline-specific TE depth chart. The sim will use whatever your energy settings are from your Basic Offense tab. So, if you're using 98/99 there, then the sim will scramble up your order according to who has the most energy. But if you're using 1/2 there, then you can force dots into specific TE spots based on the order you put the dots into in that GL-specific TE depth-chart slot.

I'm more interested in being able to have a certain TE on the left side and certain TE(s) on the right, particularly the slot TE...

from what Novus is saying, then, all three GL TEs are simply "GL TE" --no distinction between the left LOS guy, right LOS guy and right slot guy.

Has any tested to see what order the system might fill those slots from guys listed at GL TE on depth chart? if it fills right-to-left or left-to-right or inside-out or something like that?

it would be helpful if we just had 3 slots TE, BTE, and S(lot) TE or something like that.

Actually, that's exactly what my last paragraph was about.

As for the order, it seems to fill right right-inside TE first, then the right-outside TE second, then the left TE last. Run a scrim first to double-check that, though.

Your energy setting on the Basic Offense tab is key, by the way. It's gotta be 1/2 or something similar, or else the sim will take energy into account and override your depth chart order.

EDIT: CORRECTION

I forgot, I tested this about a week ago. It fills in the right-inside TE first, THEN the left TE second, THEN the right-outside TE last. I had the second and third ones reversed.

Great info Novus. I had often wondered this myself and no matter what I tried, I always got stuck with a 20-Strength 20 Blocking RTE playing the far right spot thus sinking alot of outside runs.

I actually tried it out in my Tourney game tonight... just didn't want to tip my hand earlier. Anyways, it worked! The sim filled in the 3 GL TE slots from my GL-specific TE depth chart, and it filled them exactly in the order they appeared in my depth chart: #1 guy in the inside-right TE spot, #2 guy in the outside-left TE spot, #3 guy in the outside-right TE spot. Didn't matter what everyone's energy levels were, it always stuck with my order, thanks to my Basic energy being set to 1/2.

So there ya go. Confirmed it works!
