Simple, put a delete account button in the Account Settings screen. Like most services, players will have a grace period that lasts until the end of the next season before the account is actually terminated. During the grace period, the individual could retract the request. Players with contracts lasting beyond the grace period would simply be cut and deleted.

All flex, free players, ect will be wiped clean, so even if the individual creates a new account, it will be a fresh one.

Otherwise, no one leaves GLB, the account just goes inactive. This would free up some resources and user names.

No, perma-banned people, or other rule breakers would have a field day

And what is stopping them now from circumventing the system? I recall gaintsfan23 had no issues for over a year. Only one way to deal with those individuals, ignore them. Their power comes from our responses. Cease responding, end their power.

+1

I have a list of users I would recommend placing the link on their login page as well as their homepage for easy access.

Yeah, that way users can almost legitimately demand refunds.

what about old games, you click on them, then click on one of the players, if the player is "gone" is it just a redirect to your homepage like if you click on a team that's gone?

If a delete account option was added it would most likely be a soft delete anyway (the record is marked as inactive). Most site do not ever actually remove the account information as it would break integrity in the data model. Therefore, this would not free up any resources.

If an existing user wants a specific user name and it is being used by an inactive account, Support may be able to do something to help.

I hope not. With as many accounts that have been hacked here at GLB, this would be horrible.

Accounts are typically hacked if people have terribad passwords. Obviously there were some issues early on that led to issues, but that has since been fixed.

If the idea of this suggestion is to prevent hacking, accounts that are inactive for a certain number of days could require an email validation (or support intervention) to re-activiate.

My favorite was Boltz having chargers as his password.

But yeah, freeing up sources if pretty weak of an argument. There's probably more data stored in a single play than the entire users table.

LOL, No a whole hell of a lot more. Bet it wouldn't be funny if one had been yours.
