FB blocking is just jacked on a lot of run plays.

A typical example -
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2290200&pbp_id=2353186

Combo FB on this play has 140 speed, 76 agility, 61 vision, and 5 in First Step. Is he slower than the speed HB - Yes. But on a designed run play like this he should easily hit the hole well before the HB ever gets there. He should be heading to the line as soon as the ball is snapped, but instead he just sits there for several ticks then half-ass starts moving to make a block. I see nothing in the build that should keep him from doing a better job, which are pretty typical really. Blocking FB should not have to have 160 speed to be ahead of the HB on a play like this, as long as he doesn't stand around for 5 ticks before he decides to move.

Looks like your HB is just too fast and it sure doesn't help with that sorry vision on the FB. Got to remember also, first step is a chance to work, no way to know when it does and when it doesn't.

I don't think 76 Agility is as much Agility as you think it is.

Remember, Agility factors into acceleration, especially from a dead stop at the start of a play. I think if you got your FB's Agility up a bit more, you'd see him react more quickly to snaps and hit the hole a bit better.

That said... FB blocking has always been kinda lulzy in this game. I don't think it needs an overhaul, but it does need some tweaking.

But as evidenced by this thread, people also need to build their FBs according to what actually works, not what they think is supposed to work.

"I keep banging my head against this brick wall! I think that should be enough to knock it over, but it's still here! Must be something wrong with the wall!"

Um, no.

- Snap jump reaction vision check requirements increased, and checks are now harder the further the blitzer is from the C.

So it stands to reason that if the snap delay is similar to blitzers, and the delays for blitzers is harder when further away from the C, then the vision-based delay for FBs will be harder than for the o-line because he's further away from the C. How many o-linemen do you see rolling with 61 vision now-a-days? Add that to a relatively low Agility and 1st Step chance...

Gonna agree with Bhall here. I had this very issue come up many, many, many seasons ago and was told the same thing. Give your FB more damn speed or the HB will just run him over... or run right by him. Since then I've had no issues with building FB's that can do their job. I will say it's partly the fault of GLB for not thinking this out. A Blocking FB build's skill set is based around strength as a primary. And many newbies to the game do what many other newbies have done before them... pour all their SP's into strength. The they watch as their mobile mountain FB takes 30 seconds just to get to the LOS... as the HB has already scored a TD... making for frustrated builders of FB's... and making folks just say, "Screw the Blocking FB build". A "Combo FB" works better for it's skill set than a B-FB does (IMHO) cuz it emphasizes speed over strength... while still making strength important.

The last two replay are the only working ones the rest are private.

And on the replay, the FB did hit the hole but didnt block no one or create a hole he just stood there.

he makes an initial block on every replay. the last replay its really short but he does make a block. regardless its not as terrible with an actual blocking FB...the OP's FB is pretty bad.

that FB in the OP isn't too slow...hes just not a blocking FB build...its terrible.

seems to be working as intended... sometimes our FBs make the play,
sometimes they are too slow reacting to the snap or go the wrong way...
they are youngsters with next to no vision whatsoever. seems to make sense.

I've gone to speed HBs for FB/QB outside runs and just watched this private replay(mebbe one of the Speyside Whiskeys is around): http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2290192&pbp_id=2342798 QB run outside. Lead blockers HB and FB make it to the corner with only a FS left and the QB runs right past both into the FS while the HB and FB squabble over who was going to make the block(I guess). All high vision and plenty quick(they're in position to get it done), Yes, speed is a big help for these outside runs but it's not an answer for the basic problem that GLB runners suck at utilizing blockers.

Someone posted that originally runners did track/utilize/read the blocker but that it was scrapped for the path/waypoint approach.
Perhaps..... Bort could revisit the lead block reading approach and offer it as an option at play setup?
What we have now consistently sucks in appearance and results. It just ain't the way real football works............
