I imagine the forces/stresses involved with three plates are insane.
"There are three plates being subducted along the Solomon Islands subduction zone: the Solomon Sea plate, the Woodlark plate, and the Australian plate (see figure below). A spreading center separates the Woodlark and Australian plates. More detailed information on the plate tectonics of this region can be found in Tregoning and others (1998) and Bird (2003).

Yeah somewhere out there.
I apologize I was thinking this was bigger than the 04 Quake and as such was worried about our SWPac players. But upon review its actually a good deal smaller.
Oh and - FFA por favor mod.

1 meter is basically 3 feet, so this isn't particularly life-threatening.
A 1 meter tsunami can still cause a lot of property damage, though... moored boats, docks, piers, oceanside homes and buildings, etc. Can also cause crazy stuff to happen with tides, currents, and even rivers quite a bit inland. Still has to be taken seriously.

Brian Shiro, a geophysicist at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, told CNN that instruments near the Solomon Islands indicated that a tsunami was in fact generated. It is 1 meter high, he said, describing it as "significant."

This may actually still be a concern for California. If I were out west, I'd keep an eye on this and be ready to take action. Sometimes they get the initial size wrong and it turns out to be bigger, so...
Also good to know for anyone who owns a boat or lives right on the coastline.
So, this is actually a useful thread. No need to move to FFA IMO.

If I recall correctly, the tsunami from the 9.0 Japan quake 2 years ago was about 1 meter high when it hit California. Fucked up a lot of boats and docks.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
There are TWO different USA government agencies that handle tsunami warnings for the Pacific Ocean:
If you're in Hawaii or in one of the Pacific Islands, or in Mexico or South America: look here:
http://ptwc.weather.gov/
If you're in California, Oregon, Washington, Canada or Alaska, look here:
http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/
Oftentime the news media gets confused on tsunamis and doesn't realize there are two different agencies with two different areas of responsibility to cover, so this can lead to confusion and bad reporting on tsunami watches and warnings. I've seen it time and time again.
EDIT: Just found this site:
http://www.tsunami.gov/
Seems to do a good job of consolidating the warnings and info from the two sites I listed up above.

Reports of damage to villages in the Solomons were emerging after the quake struck at a very shallow depth of three miles (5km) and was located 211 miles (340km) east of Kira Kira in the Solomons. News agencies said they were hearing of villages being destroyed.
