Both not good.
As power receiver, speed is minor but you bump it first....wrong.

Took a long break from GLB and when I came back catching apparently has become much more important. Think I can recover these builds or is retiring the better option?

Retire them and familiarize yourself with some of the better methods of building in my opinion.
