This just drives me nuts

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2255293&pbp_id=8412720

The SS here is assigned to man cover the FB but over runs him and gets beat on the play.

This should not be an option. If the dot sees the receiver coming to him he should slow to meet him and run with him. Not charge at him and then scurry to turn around like some cartoon character.

Fix this.

Failed vision check imo.

What is the SS's final assignment? If I had to guess it was blitz. If so, what is his Pass Rush Aggressiveness?

Oh, and no "Game is Broken" threads.

Its not a game is broken, its a "adjust this feature".

And no, the SS is not set to blitz.

See this alot. The dot rushes to man up and then runs past him.

Yes he probably would do it less with higher agility. But in real football you do not charge into your coverage you back into it.

I have to agree with yello1, for once.

That is some LULZY coverage logic there, and it does need to be fixed.

And maybe someone with some knowledge of the code could weigh in, but I doubt this is a failed Vision check. The FB never changes direction... the SS charges up to him over-runs him by a mile, and then turns around and tries to come back.

It MIGHT be an Agility issue. But it's definitely not a Vision issue.

yello, how much Agility does this SS have, compared to his Speed? Give us numbers, please. Don't say "pretty high" or "more than enough," because that won't help us, and it means different things to different people.

But the SS stops and turns around to follow the FB before the pass is thrown.

Do blitzing dots normally stop mid-blitz and decide, "Y'know, instead of blitzing, I'm'a cover that dude instead"?

To much guessing and not enough knowing

This might belong better as a Bug Report, actually. Find out for sure if it's working as intended or not.

I'm willing to take a look at the play and situation if yello wants to give me access. As it stands, we would need more examples to even start to get this any attention. And the examples would have to come from different defenders.

Impossible to know unless I see it with my own eyes. That's why I clearly said I was guessing.

Cool. Thanks!

I would just hate to see this get overlooked just because the name on the OP was "yello1."

I honestly don't care who is reporting a bug or making a suggestion. If I think its a good idea I'll support it and if I think its a bad suggestion I'll be against it. If I think its a bug I'll try to get it into the fix queue. If I don't think its a bug I'll shoot it down. Titling a thread "Fix the Coverage Code" clearly implies something along the lines of "Game is Broken" imo.

As for this particular issue, I've seen it in Rookie and Prep for the past couple seasons. In those cases its caused by a disparity between speed and agility (and vision). Based on yello's post above, I have a feeling a speed/agility disparity could be the issue here, too. I would also like to definitely rule out vision check.

Sorry, wasn't really aiming that at you, more at the other people who automatically assume that if yello1 posts it, it can automatically be ridiculed and subsequently ignored.

Not that most of yello1's posts can't be ridiculed and then ignored, since most of them can. But "most" does not equal "all."

totally agility. you see this on almost every play at rookie-prep level. the coverage guys have way too much speed relative to agility and can't make cuts... solution at that level is to move them all the way up to the LOS, but that just leaves you open to getting burned deep.

longterm, though, Yello is right, the coding shouldn't always be run at full speed toward your assigned coverage guy (who by the way is moving in your general direction)... REAL coverage guys often hover or run backward, not forward.

would raising the coverage cushion tactics setting affect this? if its higher, would the SS wait for the FB to come to him rather than pursue immediately?
