PLEASE add an option to an AI output that will run 40 seconds off of the clock before hiking the ball.

The current system is too clunky to finesse the end game the way actual football teams do it. You can not safely run a play with less than 45 seconds or so on the clock, which means if you want to kick that game tying or winning field goal you either have to leave enough time on the clock for your opponent to try to score again, or risk running out of time before you make the kick.

Case in point....

Now, you would have to have this setting trigger a Time Out call by the opposing team if they have one to avoid the run down. But at least this would eat up that time out rather than let them use it to march down the field (as they did in the game linked above).

Seems to me that having Spikes and Kneels is great, but we need the Clock Run Down to really complete the picture.

Don't you agree?

+1 to doing something about it... the worst is when you are ahead and WANT to run out the clock but your own team calls timeouts

If I am not mistaken you can add inputs in the AI to cover this somewhat. the key is taking the time to try to do most of this stuff in the AI. I understand it is alot easier to just ask GLB to implement this for you. also something you forget Yello1 is that this isn't real football this is dotball. so trying to get GLB to behave exactly like real football is sort of a stretch.

Error.

Unless there is a trick which I and others discussing this in the other forum are unaware of, you can not safely kick the ball away any closer to the end of the game than 45 seconds or so. The reason is that if there are 45 seconds to go and you try to run a play you risk a break away - but non scoring - gain that eats up the remaining time on the clock, preventing you from kicking and winning or tying the game.

As for dotball, there is a difference between variations in play mandated by the medium or preferred for balance or entertainment purposes, and just plain old crappy design. The end game feature is unduly limited. It should be improved.

Yeah, we called a time out right before that kick.

We should have Bort add this to the automatic end game logic

Yeah, really no reason not to do that.

+1 on the OP. Not a bad idea.
