Found this little paragraph describing the old Western European Pro League and its forum

''The Western Europe Pro League (WEPL) is a passionate and close league with an active forum. Rich in history and the league with the second highest level, it is one of the tougher leagues to succeed in the play-offs. Numerous activities have gone on in WEPL such as tipping competitions, fantasy football, All-Star voting, a weekly newspaper and numerous player reviews of the week ahead.''

And the activity in there is pretty poor now, maybe a sign of how the new league structure has killed off rivalries and the forum activity along with it?

Oh by the way, for Mods, or anybody else, this isn't a bash GLB thread, this is a pure discussion thread about how the new leagues have impacted forum activity.

I wish we could still view all the old league forums. I would rather read shit from 3-4 years ago than what is here now.

WEPL was dead before the league restructure. It was pretty active for awhile though. Not sure how long it was the league with the second highest level however. Not long.

Agree.

Major thing is that the old leagues allowed rivalries to build up from top to bottom. I understand GLB's need to fill in more leagues for teams as the games expanded but they could've easily went from BBB to BB and to B etc if required. The league forums were awesome, now it's a bit of a lottery as to what league you're going to be in for next season. It also allowed users to customise their teams to a specific region depending on where they lived and they could talk with other owners and users that are also from that region of the world, which is pretty cool.

While the World League accelerated the decline of League Forums for every other league including the Pros they should've kept the old league structure because the forums (which used to be the best part of this game, networking with people, banter etc) are now dead.

The level disparity crushed any thought of something like that. The more leagues you create the more leagues people have to push through to get to the top and that is just a daunting task that results in more and more gut teams.

I'd say World League killed the National Pro forums more than anything else.

World League became the cake, and with dessert on the table no one really cared about their entree.

p much

Also hurt the main forums as it brought the "there can be only one" mentality.

Agreed, the World League is good for the elite but not for the majority of GLB users who don't have a player or team in there. I really do think the whole World League project is failing as it makes it seem that GLB has an 'elitist' tier that you must reach to amount a reputation on here or be taken seriously by some.

I for one will never OC or DC in the World League, I'd rather stick to the Pros. Just don't agree with having a League that is effectively killing off other areas of GLB and glorifies users who think they are better than others just because they are in it.

Also, does anybody miss the old Pro Rivalries between regions? Scrimmages and tournaments to see which region had the best team etc. Just a minor thing but it was quite good as it gave the forums some activity.

Regional pride was lost, tournaments lost their only meaning, and rankings became irrelevant to the public eye.

Same goes for the peewee restructure. When they brought on gold/silver/copper all the awesome tourneys disappeared and we got stuck with a big bottleneck.

The idea of having Regional Pro Elite and Competitive is just silly as well, it rewards average teams for being placed in poor leagues with a good chance of winning a trophy and rewards good teams with being put into tough conferences where they have a slim chance of winning a trophy. Best just to mix them up and put a Region next to the league name IMO
