I think it would be an awesome idea if we could institute player challenges.

Do you think your player is better than the player above you on the depth chart?
Once a week, I think it would be fun to challenge other players on the team to a skills challenge and the results could be reported to the team owner. The team owner can make the decision at that point of who they want to give the nod to.

Good teams don't have back ups. Good Agents don't worry who's dot shows on the Team Profile page.

It sounds like you missed the point here. The point is to add another level of entertainment to the game.

By having challenges you could give player bonuses on the team. This could lead to active owners being able to put a better team on the field each week, rather than cookie cutter the same team over and over. It happens in real football, why not in the simulated game.

Plus, Good teams DO have backups. I could care less where my dot shows on a Profile Page, but do like to see the best suited dot play the better percentage of the downs.

most GOOD teams split the plays evenly between their dots and give everyone playing time... this results in the best use of stamina and no need to have a full on backup... why add something when there is nothing wrong? Utilize the system as is and let the coaches do their jobs as they please.

It wouldn't be something an Owner would HAVE to do, but give him/her another resource to use to best get the team ready for the next game. In real football, the coach has to worry about the game plan AND the player. You have player challenges all of the time, why just have a dot be the same game in game out. It would not only benefit the owner, but give the player something to look for.

Too often this becomes a Owner's game and the player has little say through the season. Think of the little guy!

Player A is the regular starter. Player B Challenges Player A that week.
Player A may be the better statistical player than Player B.
Player A and B have a head to head matchup.
Example:
QBb challenges QBa to a Passing Tree challenge.
QBb hit 7 of 10 targets
QBa hit 8 of 10 targets
QBb earns no bonus for this game

Example 2:
QBb challenges QBa to a Passing Tree Challenge
QBb hit 8 of 10 targets
QBa hit 7 of 10 targets
QBb earns a +3 to Passing this game

I'm not opposed to it and agree it could add another level of entertainment but may be better as a challenge between players on different teams.

i just don't think it would be used by a large % of the user base is only useful between team members. to respond to your example about the QB above.....not many good teams that i have seen actually use 2 QB's unless 1 is a scrambler so there's no one to compete with on most teams.

on my teams, we tend to use different dot builds at each position...for example, we usually have 1 HH and 1 zone safety for each FS and SS. what would they compete for? 1 would always win a tackling competition and 1 would always win a pass defending competition.

HB's we have a power, an elusive and a scat. why would they compete? similar issues at many other positions (although not all i admit)

Not sure this is an answer to the problem of this being more of an "owners game" than a players game... but that is true. Currently the game lends itself more to the owners point of view. Still, the thing about being a dot builder is to build dots better than someone else... AS WELL AS winning games with a team. I've built bad dots and felt I'd let the team down because of that. I've built very good dots and been proud of being a part of the championship... even IF my dots weren't the starters.
One thing about humans is you can't simply make things one way because people just ain't like that. There are probably as many "team players" in GLB as there are "individual achievers". A better balance for both worlds would be nice... but it's pretty close to that now so I'm not sure you could do much to improve on that. (still no new smileys... that would improve things! )

not exactly

most good teams make use of specialized VA's and skew dot's playing time accordingly
