...last year. And we still don't have the ability to setup autotagging by archetype for dots.

Obviously you don't want an autotag to override your existing tag, but rather than login every two hours to see if a team you have not previously tagged has set up a ranked scrim (or to cowardly take yourself out of the autoscrim via your settings), this seems like it should have been a no-brainer addition when the instascrim was released.

Bort himself said so:

And in demonstrating the total arbitrariness of the suggestions forum and the people involved, six months after the original suggestion (which included Bort's endorsement) was posted, it was resuggested and immediately put up for voting.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=4942677

It sits, with 1327 votes for and 264 votes against in the so-called "recently added suggestions" link on the homepage.

Obviously this game is out of beta, but even when it was in beta, the user feedback model and its implementation were both severely flawed. IMO the game has become overly dependant on content provided by the users via Greasemonkey scripts, when the content makes so much sense that it should be hard-coded into the game (such as the VBP).

I love this game, but the ivory tower approach to the development of this game and way changes are made to it have stunted the potential of what could have been an amazing game instead of merely a good one.

Auto-tagging is a terrible idea.

How so?

99% of the time I'm going to tag a receiving TE as a receiver and a pocket passing QB as a passer.

If the feature is developped right, it will only make things easier. If you don't want to use it, it shouldn't be forced on you.

What reason do you have for this not to be implemented?

Yes, because "that's" the issue with this game: too many features.

It is a fine line, because you can use quotation marks to express sarcasm or irony, even when using them for emphasis is discouraged.

Obviously in a "real world" setting it would be best to side with caution and avoid the quotation marks in such circumstances; however, the internet is not the real world. (Where real world is a reference to http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=5014647)

Because it can easily produce mistakes, and inexperienced coordinators will be the most vulnerable to them. There are tons of exceptions to what you would think an archetype should be, and auto-tagging ignores them all. If you're worried about instant scrims then do what I did and create a defense specifically for them that doesn't tag at all.

I have one that defaults to a no tagging, but obviously it isn't as tight as it would be if the team were tagged.

The lazy DCs are just as likely to be beaten by teams that they tag without scouting or who fail to tag altogether, I think this is a bad excuse for not implementing something that you don't NEED to use, but that is at least better than nothing.

I've advocated for:

1) not over-writing existing tags with autotags when the option is turned on; and
2) having the option to NOT autotag as the default, it would need to be setup.

It is something that could run in the background when you aren't going to be around (but only if you actually want autotagging on).

We do enough hand-holding around here, I don't think that we need to hold back the implementation of this just because someone might be dumb enough to lose a game because he was over reliant on it.

this. An auto-tag system would be a complete failure for most TT, even though you might use it. That being said, I'm usually all for adding more things, and having a little on/off check box so you can ignore them if you don't find them useful.

Isn't the lazy DC the one who wants Bort to tag players for him? Anything that potentially misleads or hurts inexperienced agents should be implemented only with care, consideration, and some compelling need. There simply isn't a need there for this feature.
