We all know that GLB needs some new blood to survive and thirve. Now that the game is out of beta and some sort of effort happens to attract new players, it's in GLB's best interests to give those new players as positive of an initial experience as possible.

Problem is, that does not happen right now. The FAQ forums and WIKI are somewhat helpful, but you are still really left on your own to find out how the play the game. Building players is complex and not intuitive at times for newer players. So they spend some money, make bad players and lose interest in the game. Owning a team and coordinating is also very complex and can lead to frustration and quitting.

When I started playing the game, I was lucky to get on a team that had an active owner who was willing to teach me how to build. When I decided to take on team ownership and coordinating, he was also there to help me learn how to do that. This was incredibly helpful for me, and is a big reason why I am still playing.

I got lucky though and most do not get that kind of training. I suggest that we have a more formal process in place to provide a mentor for new players, or existing players who want to learn a new skill, like team ownership or coordinating. My suggestion:

1) When a player first creates an account, allow the new player to ask for help in certain things when they create the account, like player building, team ownership, coordinating, etc. Assign them a mentor from a pool of established agents who have volunteered to be mentors in those areas selected by the player.

2) Provide a way for existing players to request a mentor for areas that they want to learn about. A "Request Mentor" button or something like that.

3) In order to encourage agents to be mentors, compensate them in some way. Either by giving them some extra flex each season, more free players, etc. The compensation would not have to be huge, I think (or maybe hope) that a lot of established folks would volunteer just to improve the game.

Sure, I think something more formal would work better, but anything would help. You would just have to let new agents know that help is available in that forum if they want it.

Most "new" users are multis. The rest don't give two shits about learning anything. I know this for fact since I've owned 4 teams committed to teaching new users how to build players and coordinate. Every time I would get about 25-40 new users to join us. I would post all kinds of guides and create all kinds of threads trying to spark discussion about game mechanics and such.

Out of 100+ of these new users only 1 bothered to learn anything and he didn't stick around for long. What I discovered was if a new user wants to learn this game he/she will. If they don't really care, there's nothing you can do to change that.

Yeah, this would sound like a good idea to me had I not already been through this many times and met the same end. I'm currently helping out some inexperienced guys with their team but they've been here since S1/2. I think that's just a classic example that it either clicks with someone or it doesn't. You can't really help people that don't want help.

I think the vast majority of legit new users sign up and just want to create a dot to do something. They don't want any "interference" and rarely last past the first offseason since obviously their dot isn't doing anything at that point.

Just cause it didn't work for you don't mean the right people won't see better results...

I have a training team.. and when I post build suggestions I get great replies back.. not 100% butr far more then I thought I would..

Ya you have people that log in a few times and move on... but I know a few of the new agents I work with will stay around..

They are happy to be building right and that they can be added to one of the real ADD teams if they stay with it.. Or they can move on to whatever team they want..

either way it's a few more good users each season...

It's a ton or work.. you need to watch each build.. target the users that listen and get them building right.... but IMO it works..

I mean, this game is in it's final stages. It's obvious the devs no longer give a shit about this game as GLB leaving beta was VERY underwhelming (regarding a marketing campaign). Why implement something like this at this stage in the game? I could see 3 or 4 years ago but not now. It's almost comical.
