When you set a defender to cover man and select the offensive player, does this only come into effect in a passing play?

In other words. will those defenders cover the man in a run and close him down as soon as the ball is handed off?

I wouldn't say that they will "close them down", but a player set to cover the HB on the pass is going to be focused on the HB, and would pass the vision test to read that it is a run quicker than a player set to cover a WR. Thus, he should react faster to the run and have a better shot to quickly stop the run.

OK, that makes sense and is very helpful to know. Thanks, Plankton

one thing to be careful with, I've found, is that if defender A is assigned to cover route-runner X, then as soon as it becomes a running play A will decide to lock in on X and try to break X's block rather than take what sometimes is a more direct path to make a tackle on/cut off the ball carrier. Moving the coverage guys back a bit seems to help

one thing you want to watch for is setting up multiple coverages. for instance, if you set the lolb to cover te/hb strong/fb strong/ fb weak (i do it quite often) the dots often spend too much time looking for coverage and hesitate to read run. you'll have to play with it.

Interesting bug03. I'll have a look at tonight's game, see what the new orders do

What would you recommend putting at end of assignment to better read and react to the run.

A) just "zone"
B) a determined zone
C)blitz

Last season I found having the end assignment in "zone"(A) would get the best reaction and route towards the runner, plus allow me to use "w/out move" and choose the starting location. When I chose "blitz"(C) the defender would make a line towards the QB and on outside runs he would end up well inside the ball carrier resulting in not being in good position to attempt a tackle. And if it was a LB setting to "blitz" at end of assignment would not allow me to choose his starting position on field.

There was some type of update to blitzing dots on run plays, where they no longer continue their path to the QB well after the ball was handed off, so I am asking what you think is better end of assignment setting in today's sim to get the defender to react quicker to the run. A, B, or C ?

Good question Bane. I've noticed the exact same thing you describe, blitzing LBs hurtling towards the QB while the HB is 5 or 6 yards upfield and inside the ball carrier on outside runs. I'm trying a lot of cover w/o move and zone defences tonight, I'll see if it makes any difference to my dots' behaviour.
