That's a thread I created discussing Targeted/Receptions allowed. Now apparently it was brought up in the past and nothing happened with it.

Part of my issue is that on screen passes it is ridiculous for a LB to cover a HB on a screen pass and have any equal shot at defending or deflecting a pass (most of the time I get blocked enroute). One thing I like this game for is the stats, and I want my coverage LB to have the best Targeted/Receptions allowed as possible as that is the stat I look at for him and created him for (thus "Coverage").

If it is going to continue to stay the way it is why not at least add a "-Yd Reception Allowed" so that if you get a

Targeted 1/Allowed Receptions 1

on a screen pass, you can look and say "sure he gave up a pass, but it was for negative yardage" thus it not being a problem and actually a good thing. Sure there is a "TFL" category but if you have 10 tackles and 1 or 2 TFL that could look to have been done on the run game. You could also go as far as look at all the games in a season and see them individually, but who wants to do that for previous seasons? Most recruiters look at the stats on the overall stat screen along with build and make a determination there. Now instead of seeing

Targeted 4/Receptions4

they can see this

Targeted 4/Receptions Allowed 4/-Yd Receptions Allowed 4

which doesn't look nearly as bad.

or

Just stop dinging a LB who has no shot at defending a screen pass with a receptions allowed.

I would just take all screen pass plays out of the Rec Allowed category. You can still get a PD but you wouldnt be penalized for allowing a catch. Any catch behind the line of scrimmage would be out.

I would count a screen as like a run for the defense. Of course offensive stats will show it was a pass. Then you can only credit receptions allowed/targeted on man coverage, or if on a deep pass in zone you could charge the safety with the target/receptions allowed if he had deep responsibilities. Of course you would also charge the CB playing man coverage on the targeted receiver. In zone coverage just charge the nearest defender with the Targ./Rec. Allowed This is probably really complex, but if this can be done, do it.

+1 but they should get rid of this stat collection altogether at this point imo...

This works, if they aren't going to fix it then just get rid of it rather then have it broken.

+1 don't count the screen as a Rec Allowed.

What if someone is near the screen man though? Like a DE/LB that got through the line. Still don't count it?

Edit: I get the suggestion and agree with it. I am just wondering how close would a defender have to be for it to be counted as a reception?

The problem with what is happening is that you have a HB out for the screen and a LB going after him, but has 2 blockers in between him and the HB. Making it somewhat improbable that a LB will get anywhere near the HB to defend the screen pass.

I do think that if someone is near the HB that they should still get dinged with the reception allowed. Being 3+ yards away while being engaged by blockers just isn't fair though lol
