In our game today, the game went to overtime, and for some reason, after a big play, to put us around the 20 yard line, on first down we kicked a FG:

Why would this happen? Especially when later in overtime, the other had the ball on the 9 yard line with 7 seconds left and DIDN"T go for a FG. Luckily they ran a play that took exactly 6 seconds. So why would the logic for us say on first down on the 19 kick a FG, but with 7 seconds left from the 9, don't?
