So many times you see a Zone DB get into the play before the ball arrives and yet the play reception rate is similar to single coverage.

This seems to be counter intuitive and not reflective of the purpose of zone defenses.

If the DB can get there before the throw arrives the pass should be calculated as double coverage, not single.

I wouldn't be surprised if a similar thing is going on with zone defenses. Probably something being skipped in the code that doesn't allow zone defenders to defend the pass.

Defense is totally screwed up right now. They dont know how to make a zone operate like it should...

Like you said they don't do to much sometimes when reaching the receiver before the ball. Lets also not forget their stupid idea to buff the run game, force zone defenders to stay in a zone until the ball carrier crosses the LoS. If they react early to the run they are penalized and they run at the QB.

Sounds more like a complaint not a suggestion.
