In the past there have been a mixed bag of illogical times that defenders have taken to react to a play, at times reacting instantly before they could possibly know what kind of play is being called (for instance dropping into a secondary pass coverage at the snap when the HB is running the ball when they could not know that was the case yet).

It seems its still going on. For example note the free safety here in zone coverage spending 10 clicks from the moment the quarterback steps clear of the O line and backs in his QB rush before reacting to that rush and begining his pursuit. In that time the QB has run fully in the FS's line of sight for ten yards or more. This FS has 97 effective vision and 3 Superior Vision and was not favoring the Pass.

Ten clicks is a very long time to be trying to figure out that the guy with the ball tucked making a bee line for the end zone is rushing. Its really rather ridiculous.

And here is another example from the same game today, that contains both kinds of stupid reaction times. The SS here is assigned to cover the FB strong and if not then his secondary is to drop into deep strong half zone. He instantaneously decides the FB is not going to be a strong receiver - despite the FB running towards the strong side - and drops into his zone coverage. Thats annoying because that decision process was supposed to keep him ready to stop a strong run as well. And then to add insult to injury he spends 18 ticks after the hand off to the HB (and at least 10 after the HB cleared the end of the O line and would have been clearly visible) dicking around in his zone assignment rather than pursuing and then instead of moving to the sideline to make the tackle he runs not towards the rusher but 45 degrees away from the direct path and 90 degrees away from an intercepting path to run instead head on into the blocking Full Back!!! This SS has 90 vision and 11 Superior Vision SA, and was also not favoring the pass. Brilliant sim here.

These sort of things need to get a full attention serious top to bottom review. It makes a mockery out of our building and game planning efforts if a defender with 90 to 97 vision who was placed there for the sole purpose of reacting to an outside run drops into secondary zone coverage insantly but then spends half the play diddling with himself before reacting to the play.

Get it fixed so that the results make sense.

Edit Here is another one, SS dicking around in zone for 10 clicks while rushing QB is all he can see.

This is a fundamental problem - a S first read (Vision check) should be the O-line, not the QB or backs. O-line very first movement will dictate the type of play called and the S should react accordingly. If that FS has 1 billion Vision he'd still look stupid because he's not even making a Vision check on his most fundamental read - the O-line.

gotta wonder why player tactics dont come into play more. put then again, only being given 1 tactics to cover all situations never made sense to me. remove the tactic from the player and have the AI dictate.

Yeah the O line should be a much faster clue. But even giving them the benefit of the doubt of seeing a ball in a runners hand, its ten clicks of doing nothing.

And yeah play by play player tactics would be better. Or maybe two layers.

Makes too much football sense to do this. Obviously I would love it, but I doubt they will.

Whats sad is nearly the entire O-line is beyond the LOS, his fellow teammate CB is getting mauled by a WR right in front of him and the S still hasn't progressed past Directive 1 - must cover HB route. It's like he has no earthly idea it's a run play - no matter how much Vision he might have.

Really makes you wonder what he's seeing with all that Vision - quantum physics calculations? looking up some ladies skirt in the 2nd deck? maybe he's tuned in to the sushi vendor in row 4?

Yeah, forgot the LOS thing, that too.

I always picture it as the cheerleaders from the NFL strike flick.

all stuff that made me frustrated as a DC. imo, 90+ Vision should mean they see the plays develop and Fakes should rarely work...instead, they act almost as dumb as the guys with 30 Vision.
