Why doesn't a sack get counted as a TFL? A TFL gets counted as both a tackle and a TFL, a sack counts as a sack and a tackle, logically any sack would also be a TFL.

Somewhat related: How does the game decide whether a rushing QB is considered sacked or TLF'd? Seems like a lot of "sacks" are TFLs on designed rushing plays where the QB is clearly no longer in the pocket.

a tfl is on a running play, a sack is on a passing play.

If a QB was running the ball and tackled, it would (or should) be counted as a TFL.

thanks but doesn't hold true... TFLs get recorded on passing plays all the time, like a dump off or screen where the receiver is taken down upon catching it AND there's plenty of times a RQB gets dinged for a sack on rollouts

1) Rushing QB NEVER gets dinged for a sack on a rollout play

2) The tackle for loss on a passing play you are referring too is a tackle for loss on the receiver and not the QB. If it is a pass play and the QB gets tackled behind the LOS than its a sack. If it is a rollout play and the QB gets tackled behind the LOS than its a TFL.

sure they do...even if they have clearly tucked the ball and even if they are outside the pocket, they still get charged with a sack.

link to a game?

I don't pay attention to RQBs enough to know, if that is the case than that is definitely a bug imo

Can you show me a game where a sack was credited when the QB was running the ball? I will believe it when I see it

Nope. Sacks never occur on designed runs.

That's what I've been trying to tell him but he is in denial I think

GLB has a bug that sometimes counts pass plays where the QB tucks the ball and runs as still being pass plays. There will never be a sack on a rollout (which is a pre-set run play).

Don't you guys remember the very old big sack that happened on a QB tuck after he passed the LOS ?
