I don't know how many times I've made a thread with a thread title that I didn't like after posting it.

It's been entirely too long since the game started that we haven't been able to edit thread titles. Simply add a text box when you're editing a post that allows you to change the thread title into a new title.

+1 should be able to edit a thread title within 5 minutes of posting the thread, imo

while I'm ok with this, you can contact any mod to change a thread title

So you can make a sexually derogatory racial remark, and then change it to avoid a ban?

+1 wouldn't mind being able to edit thread titles, especially in private forums

I seem to recall this being suggested a long time ago. Basically it was not something that was going to happen because people retroactively changing titles after people post responding to one thing, and making it appear they were saying something else.

Would be nice to have it if people could use it responsibly, but as we all know, that doesn't happen here.

Good points by you and Ninja, but couldn't it be said that you can already make a ban-worthy remark inside the post itself and yet you have the ability to edit it out?

I thought it was suggested before but I couldn't find it. Just have the first title be recorded into the database and have a reason for editing the title, such as a typo, or whatever.

People can't quote thread titles....

Just goes to show that when someone posts a racist/derogatory/sexual remark to quote that shit so it's set in stone. The internet makes people feel invincible and they post before thinking waaaay too often.

Edit: After thinking more about it I guess anyone can fake a quote too, ldo....

I can do that, but if I realize that I made a typo or mislead people in the thread title 5 seconds after posting I kinda don't want people to get the wrong idea of the thread and have to wait a long time before a mod can edit the title.

I really don't see this as being a big concern.

Make it so that you are only allowed to edit the title one time per thread, within 1 minute of creating it.

that should solve most problems associated with CN's point imo.

My biggest concern though was people changing the title of the thread every 5 seconds just to throw people off and whatnot.
I think only allowing it to be edited once within 1 minute is probably going to eliminate 95+% of those types of issues.

ETA: also, it would be really simple to take a screen shot of any offensive, ban-worthy titles as evidence (I realize these can be tampered with as well, but as DV pointed out so can quotes)
