Since the QB watches each progression a bit longer now, often throwing to one of the first two, it would be better to make the 5th progression not a "5th progression" at all, and make it into a hot pressure read. This would give the QB the first four progressions to work through, and than cycle back around if he gets there, but as soon as the QB senses pressure coming, he keys on the 5th progression and gets rid of the ball. Most plays have that short dump off route, be it a short cross or RB flat route, that the QB can check down to and get the ball out in a pinch, but often times the QB isn't looking at him when the pressure comes and ends up taking a sack or throwing a bad pass 20 yards down field to no one in particular.
For example:
--1--....--2--....--3--....--4--....-HOT-
WR1..WR2....TE......FB.......HB..
The QB would go WR1, WR2, TE, FB, and than cycle back around to WR1, or if the pressure comes quick, on the first progression, go WR1, and than check down to the HB. Wherever he is at in the progression, once he feels pressure he looks at the check down receiver basically. By not forcing the ball deep to whomever he is looking at when the pressure comes should reduce the amount of bad throws deep under pressure I would think.
