Week 9 is arround the corner and the scent of revenge on the Boys' Bus is palpable. After a strong first half to the season, the boys are headed into The Tribe's Battleground for what looks to be the next epic edition of The Fort Richadson Redskins and The Back Yard Boys! The rivaly began with the Redskins winning a 9-0 defensive struggle at home. This game is the only shutout that has been handed to the Boys and has not been forgotten. The Boys' starting DE Lt. Rush used this as a source of motivation in the locker-room after practice.
"With all we've accomplished, we can't be entirely satisfied with where we are. We have a tough match up against the Fort Richardson Redskins (7-1) and we need to beat them if we want to continue to thrive off our momentum. We can't forget that the Redskins were the ONLY team last season to keep our offense from scoring a single point the whole game. They also managed to defeat us, 16-12, in the first round of the playoffs after they prevented us from scoring on a 4th & Goal with only 0:29 left on the clock." - LT. Rush DE
The first round playoff loss added parched kindling to the still glowing coals of revenge burning inside the teams collective heart. The game was a nail bighter which saw The Boys leading with 4 minutes left in the game before a 52 yard touchdown from James Woodson left the boys stunned and trailing by 4 points with 3 minutes left on the clock. The boys showed resolve with a tremendous 32 yard kickoff return by Dusty giving the boys a mid-field start to what looked to be the winning drive. But with just less than a minute left and a 1st and Goal inside the 10, The Boys failed to punch it into the endzone and once again the Skins walked away winners.
"When you play in this league it is a long season and few things really stand out when it is all said and done. When the season ended last year, the one thing that was on everyones mind was the Skins and a chance for revenge. We are very similar teams and this week we have our shot. It is time to creat some scars of our own" - Nate Montana QB
To say that The Boys and The Redskins are similar is like saying that McCain and Bush are similar. When you compare these two teams statistically they are right by each other on almost every major category. The Skins average 3.6 yards per carry the boys average 3.4. The Boys average 4.6 yards per pass play The Skins average 4.5. The Skins have a slightly better run defense the Boys have a slightly better pass defense. They even average within one point of each other in rushing attempts per game. There isn't a more even match in the league and with a win here, The Boys will move back into the top 3 in the Western Conference.
"We are very similar. Even when you watch our games, we tend to have similar gameplans against a common opponent. The guys are excited about the game. Rivalries are what you live for if you are a fan. I expect it to be a well fought game." George Walsh HC
So grab your nachos, dogs, and beer.
