But if people want to play ranked games before the start of the season, why shouldn't they count? Thats the point of them being ranked, that they are considered games where people try to win.

I can see what you are saying to a extent but alot of people that do the ranked games in pre-season are doing them to work on stuff more than really playing teams to move up the global rankings. I know there are some teams that do try to move up the rankings but most are working on their Ai's and dialing in the changes GLB has seen to the sim.

Not really, that is what private scrims are for tbh. Ranked scrims are exactly the opposite of a testing private type scrim, they should move you up the global ranking ladder. fwiw I usually do the ranked scrims with teams in my age group that I have existing rivalries with to see who is better before applying Vet points, boosting SP and such. Then repeat in the offseason so can leave room during the season for tournament scrims.
